I stumbled upon a Remington 740 today, chambered in .30-06, didn’t know much about them so I did a little googling and found out they were only made about 4 years. The wood was ok, forend has a partial crack in it and the butt pad was loose, seemed to be all original. Bluing on the side of the receiver was spotty/gone. Wikipedia lists them as having a front sight but this one didn’t seem to have one/have had one, only a period correct weaver scope.

No pictures sadly, seemed like a good woods gun. Asked about pricing and was told I could take it out the door for $275.

Should I look into it or keep on walking? The 4 year production kinda caught my attention, hoping they didn’t have issues that made them switch to another design.

The 740 is widely known as the jammomatic. I had 1, didn't get shot much. Worked fine while I had it.

The guy that bought it put 300 or 400 rounds through it. It then lived up to its reputation

I appreciate it, this one looked to have had at least 3 rounds through it  I’ll probably hold off
