My 2008 Ram 1500 instrument cluster has taken a crap. After pulling it and replacing the burned out light bulbs, the thermometer died and my speedometer went -7 MPH. I pulled it again today to adjust the speedometer needle and make sure everything was plugged in for the thermometer. Now I’ve still got a dead thermometer and a matching dead speedometer.

I’m at the point where it looks like I need a new instrument cluster. It doesn’t appear to have replaceable gauges. Problem is, the odometer is part of the cluster and I’m reading online that the odometer gauge itself stores the mileage, not the computer. So if I ge a donor cluster from the junkyard or eBay, it’ll show that car’s mileage, not mine.

A Dodge forum I read said the dealership is the only way to get it back right as they route the new cluster through a “certified” shop that calibrates the odometer to my mileage.

I can get a used cluster for $100.

Called the dealership and they want $590 for a new cluster!!! That’s with me installing it!

Anyone know of a way to legally get a used odometer calibrated to my correct mileage?

Thanks. I’ll give them a call Monday.
