I've been with Nationwide Since I've had my driver's license. It's time for a change, Home and auto.

Who do you recommend?

Whoever satisfies your needs with the premium you can stomach. Shop around.

I think you'll get positive and negative response about every major company out there. But, it's good to switch it up every now and then. Otherwise it's like cable, they just slowly increase the cost and bet on you not going somewhere else because it's a hassle.

I switched all my stuff to Erie a few years ago. My homeowners had been skyrocketing. Then when my 25 year roof got to be 20 years old (and still looks like new, but I know it's not) my other broker didn't have anyone who would even write it.

I switched to a broker who carries Erie. I think @tanstaafl72555 used to be an Erie agent and can tell you what they are like, too.

I've been with Utica for a long time now: home, auto, and umbrella. We've been treated very well, even with a few small auto claims over the years. Very prompt handling of claims and our premiums have been stable.

I've been a very satisfied Farm Bureau customer for 15+ years for farm and auto. I can personally attest that their claims folks are great.

If I had to look into a different insurer, Erie would be at the top of the list.

I got my start with Farm Bureau. They are a good company. I went independent and brokered Erie...... one of the better companies out there. You will do well with either of them.

Have all my vehicles & home with Geico now.
Used to have Nationwide/Erie for vehicles & home but the premiums on the house kept increasing from 600 to 750, 900, and then 1100.
No claims or anything.

At that time, I'd had my vehicles with Geico and homeowners with Nationwide/Erie.
Switched to Geico and my homeowners went down to 600/mo with the EXACT same coverage.

Been Farm Bureau my whole life.

Someone cold called me one time (I forget who he was repping). Told him I had FB. He used to work for FB. Told him my coverage and rates, and he told me to keep FB - he couldn't match it!

been with USAA, soup to nuts, since the 70's. Might find less expensive but I doubt you'll find better costomer service.

I just shopped the circuit down here, primarily with homeowners in mind but was quoted for home and auto for best rates.

Farm Bureau was by far the highest, by a lot.. I really did want to go with them but couldn't hack the price right now.
Geico was fairly expensive even though we already have our auto policies with them. Checked a few others and they weren't even in the ballpark.

Ended up with Nationwide. Cheapest on the homeowners and very comparable to Geico on the autos,

The killer is the required "Wind and hail" pool policy, $1300 a year for my new house on top of the regular old home owners..

I have Utica as well for my vehicles and have had to file a claim with them on my truck. After some initial wrangling, they were very helpful and fair in their dealings with me. I CAN NOT say the same for Lititz Mutual, who is our current home insurance provider. They won't be once the contract is up.

Geico does not have an in house homeowners policy. They refer you to a third party..... .usually Travelers.

Lititz is pretty good for dwelling fire policies, but I have never been impressed with their homeowners policies.

Anyone who is whining about wind and hail lives out east :)

Didn't we have a thread a while back (maybe the last forum, or the one before that) discussing Progressive and/or Geico supporting leftist/marxist/etc. agendas?
Maybe I'm mistaken, but that was one of the reasons I haven't used either of those companies.

Nationwide has been pretty good for us so far. Then again, we have only had a few claims on both home and auto over the last several years.
Heard great things about USAA, so if you served they seem like the best way to go.

Not sure if they have changed their qualifying standards but so long as a family member (immediate?) served you can become a member as well.

My wife and I never served but both of our Dads did which allowed us to be members.

We had Farm Bureau for several years and they got expensive compared to what I get through work with Met Life. So far so good.

Geico is owned by Warren Buffet, and Progressive was started by a true "progressive" (who no longer has any position of authority in the company).

They are both large corporations who have a clearly powerful "PC" department.

Yeah, that sounds right. Very cool that they do that. Of course, not bad for business either. ;)

I know that, just didn't feel like typing.

Homeowners is through Homesite.

Interesting. Nothing indicated that when I did an online quote with Geico but I don't doubt it.

Progressive, I think, has some G. Soros connection.

We have all of ours with Allstate, home, 5 vehicles and a camper. Our customer service/ claims went very well. No complaints.

Erie for us also. Auto, camper, and home. I had Allstate before, and Erie had a good bit cheaper rate, even for better coverage. Customer service has been awesome, as was Allstate.

I was with Allstate for 12 yrs,, switched to Erie about 18 yrs ago and never looked back. When I went price shopping Erie almost cut my Homeowners in half with better coverage. Auto was about the same.

I always had alstate. They were great UNTIL I moved to NC. They canceled my alstate style aaa coverage and a few other things that I did not even know about till I needed it. I like an agen who takes care of the customer. Allstate failed in that category. Moved to Farm Bureau and have been pleased.

None of them. It's the biggest racket out there. I've been with the same agency for 30 years. Never had a homeowner or auto claim. Do you think I ever get any refunds or breaks? Not a chance. It's basically licensed stealing.

I have used USAA my whole life .... until we bought our new house. We used a placeholder while drawing up the paperwork, but when I called to make the switch to the new house, the number was way more then we estimated for. My realtor put me in contact with his local Farm Bureau rep, and ended up saving us over $1.5k a year. Ended up moving our car insurance over there too. I enjoy being able to call the same person everythime something comes up. Never had an issue.

I still bank with USAA - but I think the insurance is overpriced.

Erie.

Only like 3% more than geico on my cars, cheapest option on my home, and much better service than geico. AAA was a joke and the other 3 I checked were all a couple hundred high on car and home combined. Can't do USAA and didn't check farm bureau.
