Evening all,

So I have narrowed down the following gun clubs within my desired radius that allow steel targets, have at least a 200 yard range and allow guests.

I have some specific items in red font that I would love some member knowledge on. Also open to any and all feedback y'all have on these ranges.

One last thing that was difficult to research on all, is 'can you run and gun at any of them?'. That can be as formal as a dedicated pit with 3D course to as informal as 'volunteer staff rarely around and place not very crowded so self-police (the latter was how it was at previous range I belonged to).

I currently have a family membership at Frontline Defense but will be switching to Woody’s in 2020 because you have the ability to shoot on the move, set up your own course of fire, etc. They have personal pits, so the nearest shooter is 20 or so yards away, which is an added bonus. To use the 550yd rifle range, you have to “qualify” and it is an additional price, IIRC. I would have to dig through my notes to find if the $400 is for both or just the pistol and (I think) 100yd rifle range. Both are about the same price and distance, so this freedom is what is making me switch.

woody is more than double price of others for me. With the other 2 having -~9-10 ranges, it’s going to be tough sale for my dollars.

It will ultimately come down to which range has the least restrictive rules and lowest number of FT (if any) range officers and therefore allows most realistic training with the least baby sitting. I’ll happily pay 4 instead of 2 for that.

Get on the DPRC wait list now, just in case. It won't hurt anything and the sooner the better if you do want to join. It may be 2 years, may be shorter since the membership is increasing over the next couple of years. There are usually empty ranges regardless.

A member can take up to 3 guests (free). Family members are guests, although spouse can join at half annual rate.

The range has steel targets out on the ranges that you can use (with appropriate ammo of course). The range steel may not be moved. You can bring your own as well (must obey safe distances).

thanks. Exactly what I needed to know. Will get my behind on that list ASAP

Another DPRC member.
Wait should be less than 2 years now.
Minimum RO interference.
Mon-Fri most ranges near empty.
JimP covered it well.
Well worth the $200 annual fee and it's clean and well maintained.

I was a CCGC member while I waited for the DPRC to open up.
Yes, I paid new member dues 2x.
CCGC is not as refined as DPRC but is good for your needs.
It's a little bit out of the way, though.

I’d also suggest do the DPRC Precision Rimfire shoots for fun and to see the club. Those competitions are open to the public, you pay a little more $15 instead of $10 but after that no difference. They are fun and really don’t require a huge investment in equipment since it’s rimfire ... and they are fun! You’ll meet club members and that doesn’t hurt.

CCGC member here. Usually pretty empty. No waiting to join. Steel requires an endorsement, meaning you have to show a club officer you know how to set it up and that it doesn't ricochet. Have to have a RSO to shoot the 400 which they are working to expand to 1000. No clubhouse - porta potties available.

I'm a member of both Woody's and DPRC. IMO, Woody's is heaven on Earth.

I rarely go to DPRC, but after waiting years to get a membership, I keep paying dues in case Woody's shuts down for any reason.

For what it's worth, Woody's fee for a guest is going up to $40 soon if it hasn't already.

I'd be more than happy to have you as a guest at Woody's if you want to check it out (though I don't currently have access to the long range area).

Woody's is most definitely the way to go if you have the coin. You can run and gun and set up your own stages. There are no Range Safety officers. Just use common sense and follow his rules and you are golden. Oh and don't speed down the driveway! There are times when you are there and you are the only one there or maybe 1 or two other people around. Sometimes (Sunday afternoons especially) its pretty busy, but I've never waited more than 30 min. for a bay to myself.

Signed up to the wait list. How long did it take you to get in? Any officials I can grease ?

At DPRC it's been about a 2 year wait; April each year.
Last year we voted to increase membership by a handful per year plus the natural attrition.
So, it could be as soon as a year from April if all falls right.
