I've seen three full sized, late model (expensive) pickup trucks with wheels sticking way way out. So far out that the whole width of the tire is out past the body. Today I saw a wrangler setup the same way, but this time with little tiny tires stuck way out.

Is this the latest thing?

I offered advice on this forum on modern truck fashion accessories the last time you were shopping for a truck and you accepted it poorly, so you are on your own young padwan.

Move farther out in the county and you'll actually be happy with what you have seen so far.

Lol, back in college there was a papa johns delivery guy that had a brand new dodge neon with extensions and 10 inch tires? Not sure on the tire size for sure but they looked like go cart tires.

Low riders used to have the wheels with less back spacing.....you can get by with an extra inch or so if you choose a wider wheel and tire combination. Like said above......it can eat wheel bearings and tires quickly. I think it looks cool (like a monster truck with the wide stance) but it is very impractical for normal driving purposes.....not to mention the big off road tires you typically see on those trucks are really expensive.

Now I’m no expert, never looked this up and don’t care if it’s right. But I was told by a fellow marine from jersey that that the whole tiny wheels hanging way the hell out on cars got its start in jersey. Some guy didn’t have the money for new rims. Be found a set with the right bolt pattern but were too small in a junkyard.

So he flipped them around and bolted them on. Told everyone that what he wanted to do and a fad was born.

No it’s beem around for a while. The wider wheels and matching tires started with the folks that did off roading and just about any form of racing.
Wider tire, wider contact patch, more traction.

I mean, it’s their car, their money, their repair bill.

Some look like the monalisa

Others look like macoroni glued to a paper plate.

Others own glocks

A half century ago we bought used VWs for $3or4 hundred dollars, and just turned the wheels around on them. We would turn one into salvage metal in a week end. 5 or 6 of us flying around on International Paper land racing on sandy rutted out roads. Hell ain't nuthin new.

I can assure you of 2 things, their insurance company is unaware that the vehicle has been modified in that manner because it would void their insurance. If they are involved in an accident they have no insurance but will have so many tickets and violations they'll need another pickup to haul them...
Lots of luck Banger...

Wut?

Worse case insurance won’t cover the cost of any mods if involved in anything accident wise. Ask me how I know that one lol.

Some insurance companies do include some modification coverage in their policies

People that do this, among other ignorant vehicle modifications, typically make poor life choices. Nothing like taking your second biggest investment and trashing it. So many components to fail due to excessive wear, and all the additional destruction to the finish of the vehicle.

I bet these are the same people that will destroy the vehicle, or lock up a pet inside the vehicle, to keep the repo man away.

My tires stuck out some on my 2010 Rubicon. But I had a lift and 37x12.5" TRXUS M/T's.
(on the left is my 2010. Right is nearly stock.)

Try to get insurance for the company that is doing the mods. When I had my truck bed cover put on the vender asked if I would quote his insurance. Because he did lifts, we could not.

What I don't get is why would you want to kill your gas mileage always driving uphill like that?!

Because it's cool to be a broke f*ck. I've seen people leave a dollar taped to a note on trucks like this offering to help pay for the rest of their lift.

Sigh, but I guess after they've got their retirement funded, money put aside for the kids education, mortgage paid off and whatnot then why not spend some money making your truck stand out from the crowd?

Silly, but I have seen guns just as silly.

Plus, cuz ‘Merica!

I don’t want other people saying I can’t do whatever strange idea I come up with, or that I shouldn’t have an AR because I don’t need it.

Plus, anything that over the top is at least funny. I can’t believe the welds made it. Or the rest of the truck.

After seeing this thread last week, I thought to myself "that's an odd thing to do to a truck" And that afternoon, on my way home from work, I saw a chevy pickup with its wheels out on spacers sticking out way past the fenders.

It wasn't lifted or fitted with oversized tires. Just a really wide stance. I don't get it. If improved handling/cornering is what you want, you don't want a truck.

And it usually pairs well with rims that are wider than the tires.
Snapped this example just now...

Tires are either too narrow or rims are too wide...whichever way you want to view it.

Wish the fronts showed up...the entire outer half looked like a racing slick.

That is referred to as stretching a tire. It is where they on purpose put to narrow of a tire on a wide rim. We have to use a cheetah and either both to get them to do that. I hate doing it but the boss will take it in if the customer wants it. The tires last a few weeks usually before they start popping.
