Not sure if this is a praise on SOLGW or possibly kit builds?

Really wanted a higher round count before taking this bolt apart but my gun is going to the gunsmith soon. I took the bolt out so it's less stuff for them to keep up with and my curiosity really got the best of me. Exterior looked mighty crusty and I had to know what was inside.

"Build" I threw together solgw stripped upper, solgw bolt, faxon gunner midlength 14.5, griffin armament gas block and maybe 400 rounds ran suppressed - dead air nomad 5.56 end cap. I'd guess maybe 2,500 rounds total? I have not really kept track. I feel like the gun is still fairly virgin, Tul and wolf isn't very clean...

My wife is really based. I asked where the go jo was and she said why and saw my black hands.

My rifle is really dirty I took it apart to take to the gunsmith tomorrow.

"Um... It's in the shower. Are you testing your AR to see if it is up to AK abilities"

And………..

…..probably a toolcraft bolt and an Aero upper!

It’s….it’s so…….dry.

Microbest and Zev.

At least @Squanchy upgraded from the $90 BA barrel that SOLGW uses.
Not sure it's an upgrade, this thing is gassy.

I scrubbed the bolt with a brush for probably 20 minutes and ended up giving up. I was able to get most of it off but I'm thinking hoppes black isn't a strong enough chemical. Maybe next year I'll be able to get it off.

Russian rifle powder is made from old Pravda newspapers soaked in saltpeter…
My experience is AR’s will start getting “sticky” after 600 rounds of steel case, 1000 after brass cases.
I did make som reloads with IMR4895 and that was super clean. Almost confirms the ”maintenance free rifle” myth.

It doesn't have to be super clean. Or even clean at all. It just needs to be wet.
I've kind of abused this poor girl the bolt has been dry for the last couple of range trips. The firing pin was wet for some odd reason. I probably should have taken some pictures of the cam pin. Noticable wear on it but not really sure if it's something to be concerned about. It still works so I guess it's fine lol.

Yeah, if it's that dry it's worth disassembling and giving it a good degrease then reassembling and lubing it back up for sure.
