Is this just a side plate seam...

...or something bigger to worry about?

S&W model 60-4. Never shot reloads or +P in it.

It hasn’t been fired in a couple of years, but I noticed it during annual lube and wipe down. I’ve never seen a side plate seam appear, not have I seen a cracked frame so I’m out of my element here.

TIA

completely normal.

IF you decide that you just must remove that side plate...do not lift, pry, or in any way try to pull the plate off.

- remove the grip and the side plate screws, pay attention as each screw is slightly different.
- roll the gun over and give it several gentle love taps with a soft hammer, screw driver handle, etc. something non metal
- after several taps the side plate should pop off.
