Folks, if you can't control your temper, maybe you shouldn't be carrying. First we had this guy:
https://carolinafirearmsforum.com/i...-for-pulling-gun-in-road-rage-incident.34336/

Now we have this woman. "She also asks the women, “Do I need to bring out my concealed weapon, too? This is North Carolina by the way.”
https://www.newsobserver.com/latest-news/article221096515.html

Nationally, as well as in the Carolinas, the number of people with a carry permit just keeps going up. In some NC counties, as many as 10% of the adults have a permit. It's almost becoming fashionable. And with that, I think we'll see more of these types of incidents.

The woman in Charlotte seemed pretty drunk. The other two women have hired a lawyer? I'm not sure what the damages would be. Emotional stress?

This is a more serious question. The guy in Cary, if he felt threatened, should have kept the gun pointed down at 45 degrees, after he decided to pull it at all. A gun pulled and shown, but not pointed at someone else, probably doesn't rise to the level of a misdemeanor by pointing a weapon.

My best advice for people with a ccw is to never draw it unless you’re going to pull the trigger.

It is not so you can gain an upper hand in an argument. It isn’t to hold someone at bay. It isn’t for a citizens arrest. It is to nullify a life threatening event. Period.

Only time I ever came close to clearing leather there was a 100 pound German Shepherd running at me and my dog. Luckily the dog just wanted to smell and was friendly. It was a BIG dog that was just roaming.

I was thinking this same thing in that thread about the guy drawing down on the gang guys in Wally World. He was attempting to use it as a compliance tool, to re-enforce his commands to stop. Which it is wrong and can put you in a bind when they don't comply. Now what? Shoot the unarmed guy who's not listening to you. He's lucky no one noticed and he skated.

Last i read about the woman in charlotte was she had gone missing.....after being fired from her job.

While I generally agree with you on that, sometimes drawing can deescalate the situation and sometimes if you wait until it's 100% guaranteed, no-question time to fire, it's too late to draw. Ideally you avoid such situations, but if you aren't a hermit (obviously I know you aren't), sometimes life intervenes... I speak from experience.

Just make sure if you do draw, you are justified to the best of your ability.

The lady looked a bit drunk and it was stupid to mention having a gun, but given what I see as common public behavior I would be hard pressed to believe that the two “victims” who just happened to conveniently be recording were a couple of angels on their way to choir practice. Just saying. I see it around here in High Point and it’s a lot of why we want to move. As the stupid university buys up or is handed with a wink wink, nudge nudge, more and more property the bad element keeps moving into the formerly nice areas. The crime goes up, home values go down. It’s the opposite of gentrification.

The two victims were two old ladies with a broken down car waiting on AAA. Then miss "better than you" shows up.

This lady seems unstable. If you can't win an argument without a gun, you shouldn't be in the argument to begin with.

We also carry (0r should anyway) a much higher level of responsibility for our own actions both before, during, and after an altercation.
There will always be a few bad apples, and they will get ALL the media attention.

I've managed to let my situational awareness remove me from situations where it could happen but had an instance, like yours, that I had no control over.

It was about 10 years ago now. I was in a coin dealers shop working out a deal for.....well coins lol. I'd dealt with them a few times and they knew me. I was at one end of the counter talking with one of the guys when the door opened and 2 young men walked in. What caught my attention was that they were both wearing oversized coats and it was about 80 degrees outside.

I immediately scooted around the corner of the counter, turned my right side away from them, pulled my shirt back and placed my hand on my weapon. The employee looked at me funny then looked at what I was looking at and put his hand under the counter.

One of them was being flaky and asking to see things that would make the other employee turn around. The other one turned his eye to the rest of the store, saw the two of us staring at them and said, "Man let's get out of here, we ain't got time for this" and they left.

The woman has been fired and has been evicted too.

I think it was Stonewall Jackson who said- Be slow to draw the sword, but when you do, throw away the scabbard.

De-escalate if at all possible but if unable to and life or limb is threatened, then make darn sure you win.

Walk softly, and carry a big stick.

Because who wins gets to tell their story without rebuttal from the other party.

Dang! People are just plain stupid. This is the reason I have difficulty signing CCH certificates based on questions and behaviors in class. Though I always say that permit is not a badge or a cape, some just can't get past the notion that a concealed permit makes you invincible.

The only reason to draw is to stop a threat to life or severe bodily injury, PERIOD!

As an instructor of mine was fond of saying,
One story. Let there be only one story.

My permit makes me aware of how much times have changed. (Sadly, not for the better.) It makes me aware that I have a responsibility to use it wisely or not at all. It makes me think of my surroundings, and how to be safe in them, and how to get out if I need to. It makes me realize that I hope I never have to use my gun except in a training/range setting. It makes me more cautious than I was before I got it. But knowing I have a gun at my waist also gives me a little peace of mind, that I may be able to protect myself if I have to. It doesn't make me brave, and I really hope it doesn't make me stupid! Lol.

At last count I have 7 regulars that give the S.C. and N.C. CWP courses. I occasionally ask them..In all the people you have tested [thousands], have you ever NOT signed off on an applicant? I am sorry to say, none ever have. That AIN'T right!!!!! As I have said before I have been carrying Legally in S.C. since 1976, before that I broke the law. We are now creeping in on a Half Million CWP holders in this state. My number is 14xx. I have had people right here that should not be carrying. NOT because it's their right to, but because they are dangerous..to themselves. I am NOT saying 2nd Ammd BUT. I am saying the fact that I have to have a CWP at all is disgusting to me, Disgusting! BUT If they are going to make having one mandatory, the damn thing should MEAN Something.

Drunk?
Seems to be Under The Influence of something, "Happy Pills?" , "Uncle Jack?"
If she was Not under the "Influence" then she's a Little "Light in the Loafers."
She and her actions were irresponsible and "Out Of Line", especially claiming to be a CCW holder , whether she was armed at the time or not.

but given what I see as common public behavior I would be hard pressed to believe that the two “victims” who just happened to conveniently be recording were a couple of angels on their way to choir practice.
Nothing like "Stereotyping" , as the sisters ( as reported ) were waiting for AAA to arrive to tend to their car.
Who's to say either one of the sister's weren't CCW holders?

Tell it Sister!

I am absolutely amazed at how hard this concept is to grasp for some people. But, I do remember seeing the same mentality when I first went through my CHP course.

You and Chad said it best.

I would only add that if it isn’t a situation like what you describe, one should probably get themselves away from whatever situation is fixing to turn them into a fool.

I think they needed a better instructor. Send um my way. LOL. (not really)

I have a buddy who teaches it, and he's kicked two off the range, and about a half dozen, he's given them back their money, based on questions they asked or things they said in class. Also, he goes through the list of disqualifiers, and at the break, a few have come to him to say there was no need to continue; they got their money back and left.

I will never pull a gun without shooting, and hope I never have too. All alternatives are exhausted once that decision is made.
The Olde Dragon axed me when we first met why i carried a pistol in my pocket all the time. That was 42 years ago Saturday. I told her that once afellow pulled a gun on me & I could do nothing about it except back down from stomping his ass. That day i started carrying a gun. I told her I hope I never have to pull it, but if I do for her to hit the ground. Cause I have made the decision to kill something or someone.

Our hero poet Clint Smith says that the rule finger off the trigger til sights are on the target is specific. He says once he has made the decision to present, his finger goes directly to the trigger...The next thing that happens is up to the target.

As others have said do not pull that gun until you are justified and ready to use it, but when you pull it you may not need to use it as in my case.

I had to pull mine a little over 20 years ago a friend and I was being chased and it was getting to dangerous to keep running on a 2 lane road. She was on the phone with 911 when we stopped. 3 guys got out 2 were for sure armed with a bat and knife. I held my Glock 19 up in view as I was getting out. I was going to shoot there was no doubt in my mind. By the time I had sights on them it was arses and elbows trying to get back in their car. The deputy that responded felt like it was most likely gang related based on their clothing and nationality. The funny thing is I didn’t normally carry back then I had just taken my friend to the range that day to teach her how to shoot a handgun. I still do not know why they chased us but they did get a good look at my friend (attractive blonde) before chasing so the deputy thought it could have been gang initiation they would have killed me there took her back to the others raped and killed her later. Either way he was sure being armed saved our life’s. I got my carry permit shortly after that.

Carrying period has become part of the defacto "I'm a good patriot" signal virtue crowd. I saw someone on facebook posting a live video about someone following her around walmart....complete with the bunny ear filter. You had time to do all that with your daughter in tow but never bothered to call management, security or even 911? Basically every comment was a peanut gallery of "you should carry and flash him your gun and this wouldn't happen." In an already politically anti-firearm environment, it's only a matter of time before we get more rights limited by law.
