I put a Wilson J frame spring kit in my 442 today. I managed to not lose the sideplate screws, not launch the trigger spring too far when installing it, and not lose my temper trying to get the trigger spring back in 😄. The trigger pull is much improved.

Make sure you get sufficiently hard strikes for your chosen ammo, as well as reliable trigger resets. 🤓

He can probably tell you much more than i can, but i have taken 3 Smiths to him (442, 37, and mod 10) and they all felt significantly improved from the factory settings when i got them back. I believe he replaced hammer and rebound spring and polished all the moving parts. He tests the firing pin to ensure reliable primer strikes and warranties his work for life.

His springs are proprietary And he has them custom made to his specs. He works out of a gunshop in Lexington (his card says western gunsmithing). I can only speak from my personal experience, but i drove 30 minutes each way and am very happy with the results.

I hope he doesn't mind me recommending him. I would encourage anyone to pm him about revolver work. I feel like we are very lucky to have him as a part of this forum. He's a really great guy.

Took it to the range today, the trigger pull is much improved. It shoots great with wadcutter rounds but Fiocchi 125 gr sp rounds shot way low and to the right. Apparently that is not its favorite diet. The group on paper was enormous. I'd suspect the revolver but the wadcutters turned in a respectable group size.

Guess I will need to try some other .38 loads.
