Trying to find good reviews about either of these with the manual transmission is hard. The performance of the base engines and autos is well documented and bemoned by all the auto rags, but no one says much about the manuals.

If you've got one, how's it run? Reasonably fun to drive, decent MPG?

The base patriots are kinda funny, you can get AC and 4x4 (yea, not real) and have crank windows. For some reason I find that appealing.

It's not quite the same, but I had a 2021 Gladiator in manual. every other recent manual transmission from jeep I have driven has been fine as well.

TLDR; the jeep manual transmissions are fine in my experience, I stay away from MOPAR in general though.

Clutch was good, everything shifted smooth, the first few months took quite a bit of getting used to the 'hill assist' but once I got used to it it was reasonably helpful for not riding the clutch too much.
I had no complaints about the gas mileage (not best in class but I could get about 20 mpg combined). The little 6 cyl made decent power and was fun enough to drive. Creature comforts were fine. I know several people with the auto renegades that love them and so far have had no problems. Another friend of mine has a lemon Cherokee, which is what the dealerships always loaned me for work on mine, and I absolutely hated those, they rode okay, motor sounded bad, felt extremely cheap and felt larger to drive than it was.
However, I got death wobble at 15k miles and everywhere I took it for warranty work wanted to tell me it was something different. It ended up getting totalled 3k miles later so I never truly know if the fix worked. Needless to say, I did not buy another Jeep.

We had a 2010 Patriot with 2.4L and CVT. No stick. The CVT lasted until 130K miles. Everything else was still in good working order.
It was the most deceptively roomy Jeep I have ever owned. Our 6'5" son fit in the back seat behind my 5'10" wife. But he did not fit on the back seat of our old 99 Cherokee when he was 6'.
For room and comfort, if you can find a Patriot with a stick, that would be better.
