John Carpenters, The Thing

The original's special effects (practical, not cgi like the new) are OUTSTANDING
I think I like it more than the remake, honestly.

The remake was trash, ruined by substitution of CGI for practical effects and a contrived nonsense plot.

The original is scary and kinda hides in the back of your mind to peek out randomly for a while after you watch it.

The remake is a good scary movie but doesn't leave the haunting aftereffects, at least for me. When it's over it's done.

The latest, isn't a remake, it's the prequel leading up to the John Carpenter movie of 1981
Really? I thought it was basically the same
Hey we found this
Oh no, people are dying
OH, maybe that thing we found is in someone. Lets do some blood tests.
Eh, everyone dies (basically)

Same premise. It is the Norwegian station they see everyone slaughtered at in the beginning of the John Carpenter film. I love the original. The prequel is ok. If anyone played the PS2 game it was a sequel to the John Carpenter film.

Personally I liked the more recent one, even if it was just filling in the questions left unanswered in the Carpenter original.
And the original "original" was as close as the technology of the late fifties would allow, it's not a strict remake of the book, but for its time it was no slouch.
