Thought it sucked.

The first was an awesome, as close to realistic as I've ever seen, gun fighting movie.

This one was an over the top, hand to hand with some shooting.

The story line was forced. The characters in the first were colorful, amusing and with a little suspension of disbelief, believable.

The characters added in the second were superhero comic book characters, one dimensional and entirely ridiculous.

It was entertaining but nothing like the first.

I've seen random clips of the second. Didn't look near as good as the first. That's the reason I haven't watched it

They had to make it bigger, more technical to appease the video game generation.

Mini Spoilers here.

The parts that I didn't like was the crap decisions he made. He could have walked out of the grotto and been scott free but no!

he could have waited at the Hotel too.

I was surprised by the first. Expected a shoot em up movie, but had a great plot and storyline. I was impressed.

Havent seen the second one, but it looks like what you guys explained and what expected the first to be. Congrats on ruining a possibly great franchise.

Part 2 could have just been clips of UFC fights. I would have enjoyed it more.

Agreed. It was disappointing. Big time. Hell, they barely even had the dog in the damn movie.

Well this thread makes me sad. I haven't seen part two yet, but was really looking forward to it. Not so much anymore...

Wait ... I think I watched it? Did I? Uhmn....

Just a bunch of fighting separated by opening and closing credits.

Well maybe I've got low standards but I really enjoyed it. I was expecting a lot of action and killing and that's what it was.

In defense of JW2.

  1. It was more of the CQB gunfighting of the first movie. Just a lot more bad guys to dispatch this time around. Pretty cool stuff, but it does lose its novelty the second time around, but that's inevitable. Still, I enjoyed the CQB gunfighting. And how could you not like the 3-gun cave match?
  2. True to the first one, they didn't introduce all those ridiculous revolver cocking audio clips that every other movie and tv shows play every single time someone raises a pistol. Much more realistic gun handling than Hollywood usually dishes out. He even performs a one-handed press check. Love it.
  3. It's Keanu Reeves. He's gotta be hands-down the best firearms operator among Hollywood actors. But the guy could NEVER act. When you go see a movie he headlines, if you're going for the story, you dun wasted yo time.
But I agree on the characters and plot being even more ridiculous than the first movie.

As laughably ridiculous and completely unlikely-comic-book-male-fantasy-retarded-unreality bs, as the first one.

I loved both of them! The second one had a truly exhausting body count.

But yeah, I think the first was better. I think the second one might be better watching it 2nd time around where all the hyper action isn't so distracting. I swear I can't really remember any of it at all. Just too much going on. So now when it comes on streaming, it might be more entertaining.

The one thing I really respect about the second one, being a huge MA/kung fu/JackieChan/Tony Jaa fan, is the sheer physicality of the role, and the sheer weight of the choreography . I mean, Keanu ain't getting any younger. You can see he is doing a lot of falling down and getting up and being thrown through/off stuff. He obviously trained a lot with firearms and fighting for the role and it sure looks like he put in a ton of just plain hard work. So I think that's cool.
It's annoying seeing constant stunt doubles and whatnot in action movies, and I always think to myself "well, that actor is a total pussy" when I see it. Yer getting paid big ducats, get your ass kicked a little for crying out loud.

It wasn't bad as long as you remember it is entertainment. Some of the dialog was hilarious like when the Russian mobster is telling his underling that most of the stories are actually watered down aming John Wick seem even more scary - .

Truth is most sequels suck.

I agree the original was great the second not nearly as good.....but you certainly have to dispel disbelief because nobody in real life fights like John Wick.

It was way better than half the crap Hollywood spews out these days. I never find time to see movies on the big screen so I bought it on Amazon when I could since I already own the first one. Watched it twice now.

Agreed

Ruby rose the main bad chick... way gives me a boner for days. To bad she's a lesbian, dreams crushed

I watched it last Friday, and I enjoyed it. I went into it with pretty low expectations.

I enjoyed he gun play, but admit it is 100% 3 gun porn. Even the staging of his guns before the big gun fight was straight out of a 3 gun stage.

Problem was, as a "gun guy" it was almost too real...if that makes sense. They stressed capacity, the one handed reload, the one handed press check, that he >only< had 7 rounds. That he kept having to kill someone to get another gun.

Also, I loved that they explained how he had armor woven into his suit...that means the bullets don't penetrate. But taking multiple rounds in short order would crack every bone in his chest/back.

All in all it was an awesome commercial for Taran tactical, Glock, and made the gun geek on me happy. But high quality cinema it wasn't.

That said...I'm looking forward to #3...

Annoyed me the gun guy offered a glock 34 and a 26 as a bug. Why 2 calibers? Makes no sense.

I'm thinking they had to do something to irritate us. I mean, explaining how he can swap magazines between the two would just be too realistic I guess.

I thought the 33 was a .357 and the 34 was a long slide 9mm

Finally saw this on a flight coming back home.

Why would a master assassin of world renowned status and ability go to a "sommelier" to get advice on firearms he should use for an upcoming job? Like he doesn't know about the differences between Glocks and HK's? Effing dumbass scene.
