@Tim beat me to the darkside last week lol

I really enjoy mine. It's nothing special, just a 12 in PSA upper I got for suppressed deer hunting in a ground blind. I needed something compact and it fits the bill perfectly. My shots are all within 75yds and I only have it zeroed to 100yds its 1 1/4 MOA with Hornaday black 123 gr ammo. I feel confident if I fine-tuned some reloads and changed triggers (cheap horrible mil-spec currently) it would fall under 1 MOA. But at the distances I'm shooting, I haven't worried about it.

Welcome to the club!!

I joined the club last year and I’m completely smitten with the caliber, I went from a 20”.308 AR to a 24” 6.5 Grendel build and I enjoy Grendel way more!

I am now hand loading for the caliber and I’m able to shoot this caliber far better than anything else I’ve ever owned, some of my friends think I believe the 6.5 Grendel was made from Unicorn horn & fairy dust because I make it sound like it’s the best caliber on the planet or something, well it does everything I wanted and it exceeded my expectations across the board.

I remember shooting cheap Wolf 6.5 the first time. I was shooting about 2” groups at 200 yards. All I thought is why the heck did I buy all that Hornady. Then I shot the good ammo. Damn, the Grendel even makes me look like a decent shooter.

I'm looking forward the change in caliber, I have 7.62 NATO, 5.56mm, and 7.62X39 ARs already, my biggest concern is reliable magazines, and whether I should try Wolf Classic steel cased in it, as I've never had much luck with either steel cased rifle or pistol ammo.

I opted for the all black model, and may wind up removing and replacing the LaRue muzzle brake/suppressor adapter.

I already have my optic and BUIS set up from another LaRue SPR I build years ago and have since traded.

First welcome to the OCD round club ... the Grendel is a round you can chase a load for and have lots of fun if you like shrinking your groups. Over time and much experimentation you can really do well with load development from powder to projectile to loading specs of (COL is a fun one).

I’d also say 100 yard range sessions with a Grendel are almost boring ... 300 yards plus is where the fun starts.

As to magazines ... Grendel specific mags ain’t cheap but you don’t need a ton of them either. I’ve tried quite a few and E-Lander Teflon coated stainless steel mags work the best for me. I really like the 10 round ones for size of the bench (and mostly load 5 rounds even then) and have had no feeding issues. I do have a couple 17 round ones I picked up for long range feral pig hunts that work great but just never really use them due to not really needing dump huge numbers down range. The E-Landers being stainless steel are heavier and when loaded you do feel it so I never tried the big 24 rounder so I can’t speak on their function. Brownells carries E-Lander for $30 a pop but I think they are worth it in function and quality that will last especially when I am not dragging my Grendel thru nasty usage and the mags don’t get abused like say 5.56 do in classes and matches.

I have had great results with the ASC, and AR Stoner (rebranded ASC) mags.

The wolf classic steel case is decent ammo for plinking. Some say it is decent hunting ammo since it uses the 7n6 bullet with a hollow cavity at the front.
Most people say the Wolf projectiles are a tad undersized, and a little less accurate. I think I heard .262ish, I haven’t confirmed this yet.

That is the kind of information I was hoping to get, that explains why the steel cased Wolf is so affordable.

Does Wolf make brass cased Grendel?

I really plan on trying every loading I can within reason, some loads are 'SPENSIVE.....

Late morning boredom, the build as it sits this morning.
Still waiting on the upper kit to be built

I started with the 10 round C-Products mags and they’ve been perfect since day one, so when I had the extra cash I bought 3 more C-Products mags from the same company I got the first ones from and when they came in they were “Dura Mags” I was a little pissed at first because it wasn’t what I ordered, or so I thought, the Dura Mags appear to be exactly the same build wise, the only noticeable difference is the new mags have a “Dura Mag By: C Products” on the Mag base, I was able to run 100ish rounds through them at Bang Steel and they functioned perfectly.

On the flip side I got 2 Elander 24 round mags and they have been problematic from day 1, I couldnt get more than 22 rounds in them and they would bind up when loaded beyond 16-18 rounds.

After a bit of reading, I saw a number of posts suggesting that the springs need to be “exercised” and several folks got them to work after working the springs through their full range of motion a few dozen times, they used a wooden dowel or some other type of rod, I have worked the springs on both mags dozens of times and I can now load 23 rounds with a little effort but the 24th takes mucho persuading, I’ll try them at full capacity when I get a chance to hit the range again, at the end of the day the 6 ten round mags are more than enough to have on hand but I’d still like to get the 24 rounders functioning since that’s what they should hold.

I've heard about even good/bad things about E Lander magazines, from my reading about them, LaRue swears by them, but they also sell them..........

ASC and Dura mags seem to have the best reputation for performance.

I'm seriously considering sending my Leupold MRT back for a few upgrades. Namely .1 mil turrets, and an illuminated reticle.........
But we shall see

I will have one in my future but everything I want is on hold for 6+ months. I am still collection brass and will get a set of dies first. I have 2 lowers built but no upper.

And......

I'm still waiting on my Ultimate Upper kit....

☆☆☆UPDATE ☆☆☆

My Ultimate upper kit has arrived at the LGS, its gonna be picked up after work

I temporarily installed the upper on my Springfield Saint lower.
I have a Magpul UBR stock on it's way to replace the provided RAT stock, and I'm looking at a Phase 5 Tactical one piece extended bolt catch.
Then all that's left is mounting a Versapod adapter, and deciding on a sling.
