So I like multitools, you may have figured that out already.

In my quest to get some sometimes you have to take a package deal and you get a bit of junk in with it.

With that I give you this piece.

Off the top of my head I cant tell you which model this is.
But it is an actual Victorinox, not some cheap Chinese clone or even a Wenger produced SAK.
But its rough. You'll see the main blade has a broken tip, smaller blade is full of surface rust etc.
One of the openers (I think it was the can opener) was really hard to even get open, had to use pliers.
It was junk.

So I thought I'd try something I've not done before - tear one apart and make something out of it.
Ive never done this, and, in retrospect, would do things a bit differently next time...like having a vice would have been awesome.

But I went at it with a punch and hammer, as well as a 18v cordless drill. Not sure if I was doing it right or not, it, eventually, came apart.

Now, if Im honest, I wish I'd have taken a picture disassembled in its original shape. But, unfortunately, I did not.

But I'll post pics as I go, first cleaning it all up and then doing...well...SOMETHING with all of this.

stay tuned.

That's the Huntsman model.
Nice find ! It should clean up just fine.

edit: I didn't read enough that you ruined it ... LOL

Well the tool is fully disassembled now, and WONT be going back together as it is.
If I'm honest Im not the biggest fan of the 'traditional' SAKs, prefer the ALOX models with the aluminum scales.

Actually I have the same model for sale in the BST section lol

But its all apart and Ive begun to clean up parts of it and trying to figure out what to do. Considering trying to make some scales out of G10 and do a thin, travel friendly tool that I could carry to work etc

I dont know.
I would like to do something with the blade, but I dont know if it could really be fashioned into any other tool other than a blade.
But I like that the main blade has the tang stamp, so it'd be neat to keep that.

Some of the EDC forums have threads where guys have modded SAK's, which might give you some ideas.

I am on 2 EDC based forums, so Ive seen some stuff and gotten some ideas, just not really sure what direction I want to take.

I also thought about using this as a chance to DIY a keybar style 'tool' for my keys.
Then I could incorporate a couple of these smaller tools into it too.

I dont know. Right now Im having fun just being in the garage working with power tools :)

So here is one piece that I spent a minute or so on with the dremel, buffing it some

I put a piece of tape about halfway down it so you could really see the difference a short time makes when its as filthy as it is.

Yes, I know, nothing crazy, but at least Im seeing it go from 'junk status' to 'not that bad looking...'
