So I have two older cars that have some issues, but are still driveable. Salvage titles both. Any idea ball park what most junk yards would pay? and what the process is. Never did it before

One is a minivan and the other is a sedan.

Not sure about the process but they won’t pay much right now, maybe $500, probably less?

Sold a car to the junkyard once, with them picking it up it was under a hundred bucks.

Donated a Ford Explorer, good title, running. $500 tax write off, they picked it up from the house. Could have done better selling it, but didn’t want to deal with it.

I got $450 for a running Ranger 3 years ago. But the body and interior were good. Rear spring shackles rusted.

currently ~$150 and they come and get it.
we have done that only once.

personally, we like to donate our old and running cars
to get the tax write-off with just one page of paperwork.

our 3 donations:
1. National Kidney Foundation twice.
2. Wheels for Hope. http://wheels4hope.org/

next time we will use TROSA.

Like most have said, cars pay by the pound. If you can haul it to a scrapyard yourself, you will make lots more. Take it to a yard that specializes in buying cars, they will pay more and take them like they are. Try to avoid normal scrapyards, as they make you remove tires, fluids and gas tank. If you have a Pull A Part yard close, they pay the most. If you have time and want to make the most$$, pull out the
battery, cat converter, radiator and condenser, starter and alternator. Selling with the car they bring .05 cent/lb. Sale them as sorted scrap
they will bring .15 to .35 cent/lb.
I usually haul off 1 or 2 cars a month.

Is it worthwhile to donate a car for the tax writeoff if you don't itemize your taxes, and take the standard deduction? I'm not a tax guru, and I don't know if it would effect me or help me out at all.

sell it if it runs. I have noticed people from the 3rd world will gladly pay cash for a running, hi person capacity minivan. I was going to scrap one but I ended up selling it for nearly $1000 to some immigrants.

Next best thing is to donate, esp if you need some tax relief. My boss donated his Chevy Astro after it developed a slight bottom end knock in the engine. Could've been something fixable he was done with it.
Got around $2500 tax credit that year for a van that was worth maybe $1K.

Pull a part yards, and car scrappers are definitely looking to pay you less than a car is actually worth. They're basically pawnshops for cars.
