I disagree. Lol.

I almost hung myself pretending to be superman and jumping off the cab of my aunt's truck. The towel tied around my neck caught on the side mirror. Ack, ack!

Once freed, I removed my hands from my throat and immediately covered my butt, that just happened to be getting blistered by my dad's belt.

When we moved down here (it's been a year now) saying 'Ma'am' and 'Sir' became an instant part of my life. I had never done that before (except in the military).

I really like it.

Also, when they say the South is more polite..... it's no joke. Spend 50 years in NY state, then come here. Even though I myself am a transplant, I already take pity on the obvious transplants who don't take on the customs and politeness of the South. When I walk in a store or restaurant and hear that beautiful accent of a born-Southerner.... it warms my heart and I know the experience will be grand.
Try 38 years in London... Brits may be known for being "polite" but saying sorry for everything does not equal manners.

I'm with you, I love that people say Ma'am and Sir... even though it sounds funny with my accent...

So my first visits to the US were up North, mostly NJ. Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to visit NYC. I didn't really have time my first trip here but the second we blocked out a couple of days to go into the city. By the time those days rolled around I'd met a bunch of New Yorkers in Jersey for the low tax shopping. We skipped NYC and went to the shore to get seafood instead, because every New Yorker I'd met was an arrogant, rude jackass and the thought of a whole city of them no longer appealed.

That was a regular part of my life growing up in the polite Midwest. They picked Minnesota for the skit because of the brutal cold, but the people I've met are nice as can be. Now, my Ohio relatives will cut your ass...

There was a hilarious billboard and website in Charleston about GBTO (Go Back To Ohio)
