Kayak fishing 2019

Does anybody use a fish finder on their kayak. I’ve currently got a lowrance hook 4” model. First one I’ve ever used and still learning the ropes with it. Sometimes it does a great job, other times it seems the more I try to use it the worse it gets, even with no changes in settings.
I had a garmin stryker 4 on my ATAK. It worked pretty well. I actually bought one of those like you talked about and never installed it. I guess I need to sell it

People get hung up on "fishfinders" and spend a on of time on them when their in water less than 6' deep. I don't see a kayak fishing much deeper and it's mostly sight casting. Save yourself the headache....

Heck yeah.
I was suposto post up my set up that I use in another thread awhile back, I'll have to do that. It's completely portable. and uses a suction cup to mount the transducer to the yak.
I think I remember it being a Humming bird 385 CiDI . I fished a lot of deep N. CA Lakes. including Tahoe and Donner for Lake trout 200' deep.

Most times the only thing that needs to change is the sensitivity , most people have it up to high , not wanting to miss fish, but it gets too cluttered.
Oh, and turn off the " Fish" alarm and icons. They just confuse you more. eventually you'll learn what you are seeing.

Hey Guys, I know I'm late to the party, but my wife and I sold our Native Slayer Propels last year and got these solo skiffs. Anyone looking for an alternative to pedal drive, for the same price should look into the SOLO skiff. Very fun, they really shine in the bays and skinny water at the coast. Looking forward to a saltwater trip very soon. Anyways, the Fish Finder debate, I have one on my Solo, Center console and Native kayak. For me on a kayak or solo it works good for GPS and basic depth. All other bells and whistles work a lot better on the center console.

I looked at those before I picked up the Gheenoe. Of course I’ve been sick all weekend and still haven’t got it on the water.

The Gheenoes are very nice a customizable, the wife wanted to have her own toy instead of riding with me all the time. If the rain ever let’s the rivers and lakes clear up, everyone can get out and do some fishing.

Are any of you guys fishing lakes around durham and interested in going with someone? Falls, harris, jordan? I been going solo and still trying to learn the lakes

Depending on when I might be interested. I’m not a great fisherman but have spent some time on Jordan. Would like to hit Harris up soon.

Still no kayak yet, but I made some progress. I bought a fishing rod designed for kayak fishing. This can only mean the kayak is not far behind. Although the whole kid going to college thing is sucking me dry.
