Hit a wonderful stretch of water that's such a pleasure to paddle. Put in on the north side of Tarboro, take out 3.5 miles south at the river park. About 10 miles on the water and next to no civilization to be seen along the path...

That's a happy fat guy...

Oh, and there's a brewery about a mile from the take-out when you are done...

Looks like a great piece of water

Next to no civilization in Tarboro, that's for sure.

How was Tarboro Brewing Company? I heard it was good but haven't been able to go myself.

I kinda dig the place. Everyone was really friendly, even TPD. Got pulled over for speeding and the cop was very professional and courteous. Even let me off with a warning. Nice cops, good water, and beer? What's not to like?

TBC, Not enough hops for me, but I can appreciate what they're brewing. The Nana's Roof was really good and they have a nice lager. The Rye IPA was maltier than I care for, but that's not a knock on it.

Good access? Never heard of that river. Always looking for new paddles...
Neither had I. It's a tributary of the Roanoke that drops into the headwaters of the Albemarle Sound. There's not any current on it, really, so you can paddle upstream and down easily. Couple of places to launch in town, and another at the tree houses.

Windsor, NC has made quite an effort to attract people to the Cashie. They have built these treehouses right over the river that are pretty awesome. They have a campground nearby with full hookups for RV's and tent sites. If you like that raw, natural environment, this is a great place.

And not far from there, the Roanoke River Partners has built some decks for overnight camping, up to 20' x 20' in the swamps. Depending on water levels, the decks could be the only dry spot for a mile or more. I've taken Boy Scouts there and it's pretty unique.

Here's a short clip of us paddling near the platform. The water tupelo are pretty awesome.

Everybody hated it when I was growing up there, but I think that's just the nature of life in a small town.
I think many of the changes they have tried to make have been very good for the town and for the people visiting. TBC is among the best changes they have made I think.
