I LOVED baseball, but sucked at it. I mean I was terrible. So I decided to umpire. Gave serious consideration to making that a career, visions of MLB, etc. I lasted about 3 years and finally gave it up when I had GRANDPARENTS throwing punches at an 8th grade girl's softball game. The game would have been awesome, and umpiring for the kids was a blast, but the parents ruined it for everyone. I think baseball is a sport that - at the youth level - is 'easy' to imagine that your kid is some incredible athlete with MLB prospect written all over him. It makes adults nutty.
