Killed my first deer two days ago!

Congrats! I've accidentally taken a few of those button bucks in the past. Only issue is you could regret losing a buck tag. Always a possibility you see a monster towards the end of the season but you are tagged out for bucks.
 
That button buck would have been 3 years old this spring.

Poor guy.
 
NC has 2,000,000+ acres of game lands. There's a bit of a learning curve to finding deer on them, but I killed more deer on game lands than private land this year. Jordan game lands is a pretty good place to start from what I hear. Never hunted it myself.

Just another helpful hint. Be careful with tagging those button bucks as antlerless. That deer has some pretty stout buttons so you have to look closely to be safe. If there is any bone showing through the skin it is considered antlered. Sometimes the hair will be long there and unless you move that hair back you won't see the bone "protruding through the skin". I have known one and heard of some others that were ticketed for that very thing. They were tagged as antlerless but when they got checked they got a ticket.
