Been seeing a woman for about 7 months now, her birthday and Christmas (days apart) are coming up, and Im thinking a decent knife would make a good gift.

She's a florist (owns her own shop downtown), clip is important as she often clips these to her skirt etc
and WEIGHT is key, nothing too heavy.
Just general use, thinking a drop point blade.

I mentioned weight, so probably g10/plastic scales to keep weight down
Nothing too big, some of her customers are lib A F and I'd have for someone to get startled, just in case.

Still weighs less than our Benchmade Adamas.

You know...

I thought about picking up another one...just to have a backup in case I break the one I have...

but I don’t really know if that’s possible.

You want a nice knife that’s not gonna break the bank, don’t overlook the Ganzo knives. Especially the Firebird series. Lots of options on Amazon and elsewhere.

I have a couple of them. Carry one of them almost every day. When they came up in one of the EDC knife threads, several others had good things to say about them.

Good first knives ... Kershaw Leek or Blur. The Blur is a little larger w/ a 3.5” thicker blade that is tough and weight comes with it. Then there’s probably the better choice for her and the weight ... The Leek. The Leek is half the weight and a little shorter blade at 3” ... but it is a slimmer razor sharp blade and cuts the weight about in half at 2oz. BUT the blade and point are not as tough if she is going to use it as a tool not just a knife. The Onion comes in a bunch of colors so you can even get away from the “evil black knife” look with pink, blue, even gold so it doesn’t look so tacticool.

Without a few more specs, it's hard to say (What does "lightweight" mean to YOU?), but I have one of these and like it: https://www.amazon.com/Smith-Wesson...mith+wesson+extreme+ops&qid=1603156460&sr=8-5

Same knife, different color: https://www.amazon.com/Smith-Wesson...mith+wesson+extreme+ops&qid=1603156487&sr=8-8

These are inexpensive, so there's $ left for something else!

I have no idea about how it will hold up to her use case, because I haven't exactly beat the crap out of mine (occasional use only).

I got my girlfriend (wife now) a Kershaw Chive: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009VC9RW/

The original stainless looks good and has rounded edges. You can also find them in Damascus and rainbow finish that look really cool. I think they make great little knives for women. And they’re only $40.

Get her a basic morakniv. She can secure the sheath on any hem. There is no need to "bury" the knife into the sheath when walking around a business, etc. A gravity drop yields good friction. Enough to keep it from falling out while not pulling the skirt over her head everytime it's needed. Yet super secure with a belt if wanted.

Your all in under $10, it's a great knife and super cheap. You win

How about an actual florist knife?

They come in different colours as well as a hawk bill blade.

A Delica would be my first suggestion as others have said. Based on what you said about price though a KA-Bar Dozier lightweight folder would fit the bill. Usually under $25 and several colors. Nothing fancy in the steel department but it’s made in Taiwan and not China which makes a difference in my book.

First off NO, do not buy your girlfriend a knife for a Birthday or Christmas gift if you have actual heartfelt feelings for her, if you’re in the relationship simply for the sex or as a placeholder until something better comes along, then sure a knife is a fine idea, at least you got her something.

I’m going to make a blanket statement here and this certainly doesn’t apply to every female or every situation, but for the most part, I’m fairly certain this will apply to your situation.

You’re girlfriend may very well appreciate a good quality knife she can use for many years, but at the end of the day, it’ll be “just a knife” to her, you’ll be much better off planning out the day to take her “knife shopping” and spending the day with her and having her participate in the process of picking out her new knife, she will value the time spent and the whole process you’ve planed out to get the gift, far more than the gift itself, if you buy a “bro” a Chris Reeves Sebenza he’ll be blown away and cherish the knife because he appreciates the knife for what it is, your girlfriend will probably remember where you where and what you two were doing when you gave her “the knife”.

Granted, I don’t know you or her from Adam or Eve, but I can certainly tell you that, unless she is very rare female that thinks differently than 99% of the other females, you will see zero difference in her reaction if you give her a $9.99 Chinese convenience store “punisher” knife or a $1200 custom made for her work of art, because she will remember the events leading up to getting the gift more than the gift itself, of course I could be way, way off base if she happens to really be into knives, but seeing how the vast majority of males who consider themselves to be “knife guys” couldn’t name 3 main stream knife manufacturers that crank out millions of shitty clones every year, let alone knowing the difference between G-10 or CM154 blade steels, I highly doubt your girlfriend will know or care, she WILL remember where she was, what she was wearing and how the gift was presented far more than the knife itself when she sees it laying in a drawer 10 years from now.

Spiderco Delica is really light. Delica 4 if you want the Emerson Wave feature.

Got one of these shipped to me from Japan by a co-worker a few years back as a birthday present to one of my brothers.

If any of her "lib A F" customers take umbrage about her carrying one of these, have her tell them "it's cultural". "Cause libs are all about cultural stuff.

I agree with the comment about 10 v 1200, she currently uses a cheap knife that you get at a gun banquet when you pay 10 for a knife and a raffle ticket.
And there will be other gifts for both occasions, not just the knife.

This is what I was going to recommend.

This guy right here sounds like he gets women. I wouldn't know because I don't, but I think he does.

I was thinking along these lines, but this is very well said. Put yourself in her mindset.

Haha not exactly, I’ve been married for 29 years and have learned “the hard way” over the years.

My wife & daughter both carry good knives & flashlights now, but I didn’t use a “special occasion “ to get them started, the wife is still indifferent about either, by my daughter has taken an interest in “higher end” knives, she now carries a Banchmade 51 Morpho Balisong.

I bought a Bugout and gave it to my girlfriend.

What a mistake. I really envy that knife and should have kept it and bought her something cheap, lol.

Here are a few models I like for a smallish utility knife, I’m listing the knives with higher end blade steel, but you can find most of these with several options for blade steel and the price will vary considerably.

I apprecate all of the suggestions, this community rules so much.
Some really awesome suggestions, and I have a bunch of tabs open to look at various blades

Saw this last night - some of yall know I really enjoy Leatherman, this looks (per their specs) fairly light, simple, and a clip.

Im still debating, I'll keep yall updated!!!

Listen to PLAYA here. Granted it's a knife and she may not care but will certainly enjoy the day with you.

However, my wife is that one percent that appreciates a good blade. She is always talking about swords, knives etc. You may have helped me with future gifts that I never think about....
