L.A.’s Finest

I did a search on “finest” and came up with a couple hits in this forum…but the only one that relates to this show was when I mentioned a scene from it in the Top Gun: Maverick thread yesterday.

It’s a loose spin-off of Bad Boys, starting Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union. Gabrielle was Martin Lawrence’s sister in Bad Boys II. Ernie Hudson is also in it. John Salley (of the Detroit “Bad Boys” days is in it, and was also in BB and BBII…which I didn’t remember). Only other name I really recognized was Laz Alonso. The two lead guys are in some other stuff, both on the big and small screens…but not huge stars.

Series revolves around the two ladies, and then another pair of guy cops. The four are usually working together on something. It’s not gonna win any awards for writing or acting, but it’s entertaining. Action, comedy, drama. Story lines that run long term, as well as cases in each episode. And did I mention it has Jessica Alba? 😎

It’s on Netflix. Two seasons of 13-episodes. I think they originally came out in ‘19 & ‘20. Already canceled, so no Season 3. One of the articles I read when looking to see if a third season was coming blamed it on being a cop show during the George Floyd catastrophe…but the show never goes down that road.

Wife and I both enjoyed it. Again, not gonna win any Emmy’s. But according to wiki it ranked #9 in TVLine’s “The 10 Worst Shows of 2019”. 🤣 Apparently both ladies were nominated for a 2019 Teen Choice Award for Choice Action TV Actress…and Gabrielle won it. So, there’s that. And it still has Jessica Alba, in case I didn’t mention that earlier.

I watched both seasons and was waiting for the third. Hadnt read about it being cancelled...bummer. It was entertaining at the least.

It was canceled in October 2020. I found that out when looking around for Season 3. Multiple articles this summer mentioned it, and the small possibility it would get revived, but nothing so far.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there is going to be a third season of LA’s Finest. Deadline reported in October 2020 that Spectrum had canceled the series. There is still a chance that Netflix would save the series, but according to What’s on Netflix, that seems unlikely at this point.

I watched the pilot, it was about as cheezy as they come. Near the end, one of the duo fires a handgun which is seen in close-up shooting. It appears to be a different handgun than the piece she carries throughout the show.

I knew a lot of coppers when I was in SoCal and none of them looked like the police in this show!
