IMG_20180718_222720_hdr.jpg I was given a link to a story about a woman who accidentally shot herself while adjusting her FlashBang holster in her bra.
This is kind of freaking me out!
What do the women here think? Do you use one, do you like it, anything you can tell me....
Also, I'm going to do more research on safeties!!! Lol.

Photo! Ok placed oddly. Not sure I should post the pic of the holster in the bra! Maybe get a better pic done by someone else.....sorry! I'm trying to be an adult about this, I'd have done it 20 years ago! Lol.

I'm not equipped to use a FlashBang holster but, you can accidentally shoot yourself with any kind of holster. Keep your finger or anything else away from the trigger and trigger area. If you allow clothing, or anything, into the trigger guard, the trigger can be depressed and cause the gun to fire.

The FlashBang appears to be a good choice for concealing a small pistol or revolver.

Just like many guys don't want to appendix carry, I don't like the idea of a loaded gun bouncing around the girls. Besides, I am not that well endowed. I've tried one and didn't like looking like I had 3.
I'm not well endowed either (wish some of my endowments elsewhere on my person could migrate UP!), but I can get my gun up there and have it not show thru my shirt. It seemed like a nice option and was ok comfort wise. Of course, a loaded gun in there now doesn't seem like such a hot idea! Lol.

@Millie, look in the mirror and see if you think it would fit... or stick out like @Miss Lily indicated.
The only thing I ever appendix carry are 2 tube socks......... For good reason....
It does fit, very nicely...I'm not abandoning the idea just yet. Maybe rethinking what gun I stick in there! Time for "safety on a tiny gun" research....along with all my other "projects".........

To reiterate what was said above: once your pistol is holstered the only time it should come out is if you need it, or if you are home in a controlled environment where you can pay attention to what you are doing.

Complacency is what gets most people shot with their own firearms. If you read most stories about negligent discharges they are almost always someone farting around with their gun when they should be just leaving it alone.

I’ve seen those things on YouTube and really unless you are a big bust size or wear a oversized shirt they are not a good conceal method. I would never carry appendix but for women it would be the least printing option with a loose shirt.

I am NOT going to google that.

OK, I'm not going to google that because I'm at work right now...

I'm a big advocate of semiautos with safeties. MANUAL safeties. (I don't care what anybody says, Glocks do NOT have a safety.)

When the gun is on SAFE, then either the trigger can't be pulled to drop the hammer or the hammer is blocked from striking the firing pin. (Or some similar arrangement depending on how the weapon functions.)

Whatever holster you get, it should provide protection for the trigger and the safety. With the gun holstered, it should not be very easy, if at all possible, for something to reach the safety or trigger and affect their positions.

Keep your weapon in your holster at all times, unless you need to draw it for real or to remove it for cleaning, etc. No needless in-and-outs.

When removing the gun from your body, remove the gun with it IN the holster. My IWB holster comes of entirely whenever I remove my pistol. I flip the snaps on the belt loops and pull the entire holster/gun out. Same thing for donning your gun...do it with the gun in the holster.

SO:

- Gun with safety

- Proper holster

- Leave the gun in the holster (don't play with it)

- Don and doff your gun with it in the holster.

I tend to wear large shirts, but that's because I'm carrying extra weight, and NOT where I want it to be!!
I've been wandering around the property/ house with my gun and it seems to end up to the side at my waist. Not sure how easy it would be to get it out. Working on all this stuff. I'm going to try the bra method some more, and the belly band. I figure I can get a rough idea what's going to work before my CC is approved. But I'm guessing I'm going to just have to go out into the world and see what works in real situations, right?

A safety is going to be looked at, but if I keep the gun "empty" in my bra shouldnt I be ok? Now we get into the whole "condition" of the gun thing, don't we. If I'm carrying the revolver, there's a chamber empty. Do I need to get another small gun, this one with a safety, to be my CC, so I don't need to work the slide before firing? My carry gun WAS going to be the .380, but would I remember I had to rack the slide if I had to use it? I'd probably have pee/poo coming out if I got in such a dire situation! Guess this is where your training classes come in!!!!
More stuff for me to consider.....

Modern revolvers do not need an empty chamber. On old cowboy style revolvers (old single actions) the firing pin was attached to the hammer and if hit, even when not cocked, it could cause a round to fire.

You obviously need to carry how best makes you comfortable, but I highly recommend against carrying without a round in the chamber. Modern firearms are designed to be carried this way and will not fire unless the trigger is activated somehow. Also, carrying an unloaded gun means you assume that during a moment of extreme panic/fear you will have the presents of kind and physical dexterity to rack a slide. Most self defense shootings happen blindingly fast.

This is where getting proper training is important as is spending plenty of time at the range getting familiar with how your tools work.

Of what use is an empty gun?

The only person I ever knew who was threatened by an empty gun was Superman, 'cause he used to duck them when thrown. But he's a good guy!

Modern revolvers don't have to be carried with an empty chamber. But even so, they're ready to use because pulling the trigger rotates the cylinder to the next chamber anyway. A semiautomatic requires you to manually chamber a round first, if it's not already loaded and chambered.

The fact of the matter, though, is people can carry a firearm in any condition they wish. But a firearm being carried for defense which is not ready for use is a defensive firearm that's...not...ready...to...defend...you.

I meant the chamber (?) was empty, not the magazine, sorry! Lol.
I'm working on all this, but it's hard for a newbie....

Still...it takes time to chamber a round. And typically two hands.
True.
I'm going to Jim's/Fayetteville soon. I'm sure they'll be able to get me headed in the right direction. I was told about two guys to ask for there. It's the closest place I can rent guns, so....

By the way...you know that a bra can technically be called a "b**b holster", right?

Just sayin'...

;)

Very nice! Lol.
Why are you awake so late, or early, depending on your point of view.

I'm working a 12 hour backshift, from 6 pm to 6 am. Engineering support...and not much is going on. I need to be at the troubledesk in case someone one the various submarine projects in the shipyard calls for something.

Back to the bra...

Piers Anthony, an author, has a series of fantasy books which revolve around the land of Xanth, a magical land which just happens to look like Florida. In it, all the people have a unique magical talent and the creatures and plants inhabiting the land have some magical property. A lot of them are based around puns.

For example, a pineapple is explosive. The pun is that "pineapple" is a slang word for a type of grenade which resembles a pineapple. A nightmare is a black horse which brings bad dreams.

He uses a lot of puns which his fans send in...and he gives them credit for them in his books. I'm in one of his books (can't remember which one off the top of my head" for "boobytrap"...which is a bra.

:D:D:D

EDIT:

Just looked back through my old email...I sent that particular pun to Piers Anthony in 2007. That means it's probably in the "Jumper Cable" book in the Xanth series. I'll have to check to be sure!

Lol.
What shipyard? Or is that top secret?

I miss VA!!!! I miss being near the water, too.
So that's where you live/work?
I haven't been "home" since 1998!!!! I guess THIS is home now.

Not quite...

Home is in South Carolina. Work is in Virginia.

Not sure I want to BE the safety. See newest thread.

Unfortunately you don't have a choice in the matter. If you choose not to be the safety then you need to immediately put down your firearms and never touch them again. If however you decide to continue on your chosen path then you are the safety. Like it or not. Mechanical safeties can fail. You are the back up for those failures. You will be just fine.

I had to remove the manual safety on my M&P 9C. After carrying the XDs, I kept forgetting to sweep it down on the range. All I could think was if this was "real", I'd be dead. I keep my gun in the holster and finger out of the trigger guard until I'm ready to fire it.

I picked up a Beretta Pico last night. I'm currently pissed off at Ruger. Definitely a good fit for what you want to do. Double action trigger. Re-strike capable. Inertia firing pin, there is no tension on the pin til the hammer strikes. Sights are easy to pick up and adjustable. And like the original LCP, there is no manual safety but you really have to squeeze it like you mean it to fire it. Schattenreiter and B00ger are giving you some good advice.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!
I am the safety!

I think it's too small. I found it online and it's a .380, one of which I already own. I'm looking for a bigger heavier gun for the house. My Kel Tec suits me fine to carry and it's not too snappy. But I appreciate the response.

I thought you were looking to hang something on your bra. My Bad! All these threads are getting confusing!

Best safety on any gun is the one between your ears that tells you to keep your booger hook off of the bang switch until it's time for it.
