Spring Kit DIY

How are you measuring the pull weight?? 6# is awfully light and may not provide consistent ignition or trigger return. A deadly consequence...

What he said. ^^^

A new rebound spring wouldn't change the pull in DA mode that much either.

I never change the factory main spring since that can affect double action firing (light strikes).

Funny you posted this because I just received a Wilson Combat 4 spring kit for my mom's new 642. The trigger pull is crazy hard! Wasn't planning on modding the gun for her but I know she'll immediately complain about the trigger weight.

I got the Wilson Combat kit on eBay for $14 shipped.

I'm no expert but I had a K frame .357 that someone had screwed up by cutting coils off the rebound spring, so I had it apart and bought a Wolff spring kit (rebound spring, main spring, and cylinder stop spring).

While the new rebound spring is what easily "fixed" the gun, it only impacted the trigger pull in single action mode (hammer manually cocked) as I recall. The main spring (in the grip) is what impacts the heavy pull in double action mode, but as @Bailey Boat said it can have negative consequences if it is too light, and 6lbs seems way too light. I don't think I could adjust mine below 8-9lbs without issues.

Would you post about the install and the results? Thinkin' about it for my new 442.

Sure will. I'm giving my mom the 642 along with a couple related items for Christmas when we get together next weekend, so I'll install the spring kit for her then.
Never done it and I nothing about revolvers so I'll be using a YouTube video to walk me through it.

Try some CCI/Speer ammo that uses CCI primers. If it fires those, you should be good to go. I think every gun is different. I have replaced springs on some revolvers with no negative consequences. On the other hand, my 686SSR had a factory spring that was too light for CCI primers. After replacing the factory spring with a "standard" spring, it has had zero issues.

There honestly wasn't much to post about. I used this Brownells video and was able to install the spring kit and hogue tamer grip in about 10min. The hardest part was getting the action spring's little black base cap back in.

As for results, definitely lighter though I don't have a puller, I'd guesstimate 7lb. Not match light by any means and I used the lightest trigger spring. Considering this is a carry and HD gun for my mom, I'd say the weight is perfect.
I tested the effectiveness by trying to aim at a certain point on the wall as dry firing. I looked like I had Parkinson's before the mod. After the mod, I'm sure I could put a solid grouping on paper at 7-10yd! $12 well spent, no doubt.

Interesting, thanks!
