I had another lesson at Jim's this morning. I had a list of things to bring up and we got them addressed.
1) I did put the gun back together properly after cleaning it!
2) If I stand to the left of center a bit in the lane, my cases will hit the coach and not me! (Except for one out of about 75.)
3) My wrists are not bending.
4) I'm flinching a bit, but not every time! (?) He loaded up some snap caps mixed with live rounds and had me go for it. Sometimes my hand would dip, sometimes not....mixed bag. Working on it. Good practice for clearing out problems, though, and keeping focused. Also good for racking the slide "up" instead of lowering the gun a bit to do it.
5) Groups were a bit perplexing....some nice and tight, some not. Thinking about my breathing helped, and slowing down.
6) Used new earmuffs and they were ok turned off while shooting, but turned on I can hear talking, which was a nice change.
7) Put a solution on glasses called Spit, worked pretty well keeping the fogging out.

So all in all a good day, and I have to say I loved shooting in the cold! It was still kind of hot for me in there, but you could see your breath....my kind of "weather"....
I was given some stuff to work on before the next lesson, so we'll see what happens.
I think I'm progressing well. It's going to take time, as y'all have told me. Feel free to make any suggestions you might have.

Forgot to add....need a tattoo person in there to mark the "sweet spot" on trigger finger so I can find it every time!!! Any ideas? Lol.

Haha! Sounds like a great trip you had. As far as the "sweet spot", well that comes with practice, you will get there.

To start with, most of us are pretty anal when it comes to cleaning our firearms, but in truth, you can go hundreds (if not thousands) or rounds before ever really needing to disassemble it. Wipe down with oil, run a brush down the barrel, and you are good to go.

That said, learning to field strip a firearm is a great thing to do. This is where good old youtube can come in handy. Watch videos and practice away.

Groups will always be a bit perplexing. The plain truth is sometimes we just shoot better than others. Its why Tiger Woods doesn't always shoot the same score every time he plays the same course. Sometimes things just happen.

you used the Spit Antifog Spray instead of the organic stuff :)

Sounds to me like you've come a long way, @Millie . Congrats. Continue doing what you're doing and you will get better and more comfortable. And, I'd bet that a lot of members of this forum would fail the snap cap test.

Thanks for the kind words!
I wish I knew why I did ok on some snap cap tests and not on others....it's a mystery! But I learn something new every time I go to the range, alone or in a class or with a buddy, so I'm a happy camper!

just refresh it every morning and before you go to bed :)
Smarty! Lol. It's time for another tattoo anyway, maybe I'll get it put on there (very light-colored) when I get my pink ribbon done.

Sounds like your coach is helping to move you in the right direction.

Keep having fun!

I got tired of failing that test so I modified it slightly. I load only snap caps and now rarely flinch. ;)

The "sweet spot" will vary on different guns so tattoo probably isn't wise.
I totally get that, but I'm only training with this one gun now, because it's the one I carry. I've pretty much found the one that works for me, so I'd only shoot other guns to be finding my next one, which may or may not turn into my EDC.
If I ever change to another gun, I can always get the spot tattooed over in skin tone and redone after finding the new "spot", I guess. Lol.
My family would agree that a tattoo isn't wise...they hate them! Which just leaves more ink for me.....

But where's the fun in that?! I like the big bang and the gunpowder smell!!!
I guess you can save lots of $ this way though.....lol.

He's going slow, which is good, as I tend to want to leap ahead! Smart young man!
But we have discussed what we can cover once the basics are in place, so that'll keep me going at his pace. I'm enjoying every visit to the range! Might go for another solo visit next week and see if I can put yesterday's lessons into practice.

Haha, no. I've got a few tattoos, but none so boldly specific as a name.
I never got the name tattoo, though ny next one (after the sweet spot!! Lol.) will eventually get initials and dates of women that weren't as fortunate as I've been in surviving breast cancer.

I wouldn’t want you shooting at me before or after!!!! ;)
