Let's see your setup.

Personally I've bounced around several pack setups over the last decade or so. I realized today that I've been carrying my present setup now for three seasons largely unaltered so I must've finally gotten it right for me.

The pack is a Maxpedition Noatak. It is one of the mid size packs in the Gearslinger series.

Maxpedition branded additions include a Janus extension pocket, a Volta battery pouch, and a mini Roly-poly dump pouch.

I don't really need the extension of the Janus as I'm not THAT large of a fellow. But it makes for a handy detachable IFAK that I can access without removing my pack. I have it positioned so that it rides right against my ribcage on the right side.

The Volta battery pouch comes with a nice battery keeper insert that I promptly remove and use to store batteries elsewhere in the pack. I then use the Volta pouch for field dressing gloves. Black nitrile in my case.

The Mini Roly-poly makes for a nice pouch to drop my coffee cup into during cold mornings. The larger water bottle pocket is usually occupied with a large Stanley water bottle. Vacuum insulated, it will keep water iced all day. Stanley coffee mug too. And when not needed the Roly-poly rolls up out of the way.

Other additions include a large blade for trail clearing (it is THICK where I hunt and retrieving a downed deer can be a chore). I've been using the Kershaw Outcast in D2 for a couple years. Picked it up in trade from our very own NCLivingBrit. I really wish Kershaw hadn't discontinued it. It really is a great woods blade. Very light weight but cuts bigger than it ought to.

My field dressing blade that stays on the pack is a Mora 2000. It recently replaced a Companion, though the Companion often does belt duty as well. The Mora sheath is my own work and is secured with a Malice clip.

Inside the pack itself is basic survival and comfort gear (TP) along with a spare mag for the rifle and game calls. I also sometimes carry a .22 pistol late in season in case deer hunting becomes squirrel hunting. Ruger MK I Target in this case....

So let's see what you carry in the woods. I'm always looking for tweaks and ideas.

nice load out! Where are the Snickers and sammiches?

I ate them?

Seriously there were a couple Kind bars in there. I ate one Friday and one today. Need to restock before Saturday.

How far (really) are you from the truck at any given time to need all that stuff?? I mean, really?? Obviously we (you and I) roll differently.
I pack light and use a minimal vest. I usually hunt from the boat and am rarely more than 1/4 mile from it.....

Sometimes a couple miles.

If I was hunting deep the pack and equipment would be beneficial. Things happen, stuff breaks, bodies get hurt.
But those days are long gone.
Always used a small back pack with extras. Ammo/arrows and snacks and something to drink.
Grunt/bleat calls. Paracord. Extra tree hooks. Anything I thought I might need. Funny thing is I never thought about the emergency stuff, bandages and blood clot, etc. Now that I look back, glad I never needed it.

Nowadays, hikes in are a whole lot shorter and retrieving the deer takes me longer to do then the actual setup.

So in reality, I'm not much help to your pack picture thread. :(

Breaking my back while hunting in 2007 changed my perspective greatly. Had I been alone I might have laid there long enough for shock and hypothermia to be problems.

Since then I carry enough gear to keep me alive (hopefully) for 24 hours in the event I can't make the walk back to the truck.

People fall, people step in holes and break ankles, bullets hit things they shouldn't, cell phone batteries die and in some places signal sucks. Crap happens in other words.....
