I keep finding myself wanting to try carry optics but never follow through.

Every time i try and commit i bail on the optic after the first few days of training.
To me the biggest pain is training to present to the target without having to find the dot.

Presenting with irons is so much easier. Everything just feels slower with the optic when i always thought i would slap on a dot and shoot faster haha.

What really concerns me is trying to train for both and taking away from both limited and carry optics.
Draws, reloads, etc are all universal but the presentation for me is very much different. My limited presentation does not work with the optic and vice versa

Im thinking about shooting on the 11th at the sfe classifier in carry optics.
Is that even realistic to be able to train in that time?
I can dry fire for about an hour a day and probably get two healthy 1 hour sessions live fire in.

Or should i just ditch the optic and keep training on the limited??

11 days is probably not enough for a classifier match, too much emphasis on the draw which to me the hardest thing to get fast.

Anyway if you want to do it. Put the iron sight gun away, seriously, don't mess with it, going back to irons once you really learn the dot is almost as easy as just putting the gun in your hand so leave it alone.

I didn't get good before my optic died, probably wouldn't have anyway so remember what you paid for this advice. Things I focused on: draws - longish range/small target, learning to accept the wobble especially SHO/WHO was very tough, finding the dot just took repetition; reloads - get that dot back on target right now; wide transitions - not tracking the dot target to target, it's easy to do and hard to notice on close together targets so space them out; position entry - being on target ready to shoot as soon as possible, the better CO guys are every bit as aggressive here as top level open shooters. Basically any type of drill your forced to look away and then get another acceptable sight picture fast.

Depends on what you're using and what you expectations are. I honestly was able to sort out draws/presentation pretty quickly. If you spend a couple hours on it in dry fire it will become very easy. The biggest difference for me in CO is how much movement there is in the dot shot to shot. It's pretty wild and will require dedicated live fire practice. Some things that I thought were helpful was using the same type of gun (gen 3 Glock) for Production, Limited and then CO as well as milling the slide rather than using an adapter. It's higher than my iron sights, but the difference between a dovetail mount and milling the slide is severe. Now I can shoot CO and production during the same practice session or Steel Challenge match without issue. For USPSA, if I've been practicing consistently I'll shoot Production and if my practice is lacking I'll do CO because it's very forgiving due to mag capacity and the optic. It's a fun division that is steadily gaining competitors.
