What kind of sauce did you use? If you want to really piss off the Texans, I'll send you some John Boy and Billy Eastern NC BBQ Sauce. Good old Vinegar Based! I've made my own sauce for years, but I was really impressed with the John Boy and Billy Sauce. It is Very good on Ribs and Boston Butt. Their Grilling Sauce is also very good on Chicken.
 
I visited Texas once (Dallas) on a business trip. I went into some kind of diner advertising BBQ and ordered a sandwich. It was beef with some kind of tomato based sauce. After one bite I dumped it in the trash and walked out. Fortunately there was a McD's across the street. I hate to admit it but it was one of the few decent places I found to eat in that God forsaken country.

No sauce, just a rub. I've tried the John Boy and Billy sauce before, It's pretty good.

I feel your pain. My ex wife loved the old thick sweet pasty Kraft original sauce on ribs and chicken. I guess as long as its been around, somebody had to like it and I wound up marrying her. That's as good of a reason to divorce as any.
