I'd really like to shoot this match, but my normal partners in crime are unavailable...

Clinton House Plantation in Clinton, SC. May 18th.

I can bring the 6.5CM (valid dope to 1,000) and be the "primary" or I could be secondary with the .223. I don't really care which, I just want to shoot.

Hit me up if you're interested.

Disclaimer: I seriously doubt that I'd be in serious contention, I'm looking at this for giggles and to get started in DMM comps. I know the match director fairly well and know this will be a well-produced match.

Man I wish I could do this. I need to learn this stuff. It's a real weakness in my rifle game.

I guess I need to build a new upper with glass for this. Can you educate me on what the "secondary" rifle would ideally be?

Well, I'm new to this type event as well. But had a lengthy chat with the match director who explained it the way...

The team has to engage a certain number of targets of unknown range. The "secondary" shooter is supposed to be hosing down the closer targets (say 400 and in) while the primary spots and then sets up to engage the targets at distance. Only 1 shooter can engage at a time.

So, the secondary rifle is generally a heavier barreled AR with decent glass, bipod and a good trigger shooting 75/77gr precision loads.

The primary is a precision rifle capable of making hits at 1,000+.

Thanks! Any idea what type of glass that would be appropriate? I got a perfect rifle and other stuff. But it's a 1-6x24.

If you can get reliable hits on a 2MOA target at 500, the 1-6x would be fine on a secondary I'd think. I'd certainly take it to a match and just run what you have at first.

Knowing your drops/dope and being able to range the targets is a bigger deal than glass I think.

But, if you were in the market, I'd think something like the Trijicon 2.5-10 would rock.

No doubt my rifle is capable. It'll shoot MOA with 55grn. And I've easily shot 4" plates at 300. BUT: that is off a bench and I have just not had the opportunity to shoot it further.
So, the gun could do it, but I don't think I could as it's a mil reticle and I have no dope at all.

So I guess my first order of business is finding a way to get out to 500 and start there.

Thanks!

Your 1-6 scope will be great at 500 yards, and it wouldn't take very long to figure your drops.

I would love to do this. I haven't been behind a rifle in a year.

@Tim I am out of town that weekend, but im only about 45 minutes from there

I would also enjoy that type of competition and have an SPR type AR (Shilen barreled 2.5-10x glass) or a 224 Valkyrie with a 6-24 PST. I’ve shot it out to 300yds; I just need more components (80gr ELDs rare locally) and brass, and then I can get a surplus going as well as head to @Panteao range to get my 600yd dope going...

If there’s a similar match come fall I can block my schedule for and prepare my equipment, I’d love to go

My understanding is that the DMM matches are going to be a regular thing. Some will be individual and some team matches.

You could also zero at 200, get a good chronograph reading on your load and just wing it. I rarely practice past 200yds with my 3gun rig, but have made 1 shot hits out to 750 using StrelokPro to calc the drops.

I've got a solid 200 yard zero. Definitely gonna try this with my current setup. Also have strelok. Just need to spend a little time with it. The Vortex is fairly new.
I'm confident for 3gun type stuff, but it's just rarely beyond 3oo and if it is it seems to be large steel and maybe 1 at 400.

I’d love to do this as the 2 shooter. I need to build me an upper for it.

SOMEBODY take the plunge and just do it! I'm measuring the success of this match in giggles per target. I don't care if we finish 1st or dead last, I just want to participate.

What's the point behind requiring a sling? I've got two rifles that would be more than adequate for this, but need longer distance data beyond 550 yards.

Sig Sauer SSG 3000 with a Schmidt and Bender PMII 12-50x56
HK MR762 (G28 conversion) with a Nightforce NXS 8-32x56

Sling is required for the transition from pistol to rifle. For example, stage brief might read "engage pistol targets while advancing to rifle position"

I would be all over it if I wasn’t out of town with a family event

I’d love to go shoot one up there or start regularly

A rifle sling is a riflemans best friend. When one knows how to shoot sling supported, life is good.

Come on out for 3 Gun on 5/17. 1 spot left on my squad. Great group, more fun and gun oriented than super sniper.

Id love to come but it’s my son’s 5th birthday weekend and we will be very busy

I snagged 300pcs of brass and 300 80gr ELDs from Midway on sale plus free shipping on $50+, the savings let me get two extra 15rd mags. Now I’m DEFINITELY set to shoot a match if I can get to one

If I wasn’t out of town that weekend I’d be on it. I ordered a ton of 224V reloading supplies so I could have at least 300 loaded rounds on hand for a match at any given time.

How frequently will these be held?

@Matt.Cross gonna shoot your Mega .308?

@Tim did you get any reman ammo?

I actually found Magtech 77gr SMK for $0.55/round. We'll give that a go.

@Matt.Cross and I have decided he's the more manly of us and will take the long range stuff, so I'm just gonna hose down the closer (min 200 yards) stuff.

I've been checking out the rules and discussion on FB. Apparently the primary and secondary engage the same targets, but the primary only gets one shot per target.

Sweet, y’all should have fun:
Seems right up yer alley Cross.

Get CIB out there too, and then start PRS/precision competition forum, so I can learn something!

I should be taking my Valkyrie to Panteao’s range this weekend (I want to load some 80ELDs and 90SMKs over 4895 first) If I can match the dope to a ballistics table (It was dead nuts at 300yds) I should be in good shape

Does the weapon have to be semi-auto for a DMM match?

Would my Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 suffice? It's the newer model that accepts AR-style mags

Nope, doesn't have to be semi-auto, or even 5.56 for that matter. The Tactical class can be both with 5.56 or both with .308 or a combination. Open class is 'run what you brung'.

Went to a couple matches at Woodys just to watch and hang out. Not sure if it was DMM or PRS ?
But bolt guns guys were not at a disadvantage and two guys won that match shooting 6.5br bolt guns if I am not mistaken.

Shot @BurnedOutGeek ’s .260 that day way further than I had any right to. He just told me where to hold and.....DING. Was fun.
What an awesome gun. But, yeah, it’s waaaaaay out of my price range!
