I have run a Helos 6-24X50 on my CZ455 for the last year, including in competitions. It is a decent scope, tracks well and has reasonably clear glass. The downsides for me are that it does not have a zero stop (and you can't redneck-shim one with washers) and the reticle sub-tensions seem a bit thick for my tastes. Honestly, it seems like for the difference in price, the Argos is still a better option, given that it has a zero stop capability. The Helos has lockable turrets, but in my opinion, given the choice - I'd much rather have a zero stop instead. That said, the scope has done exactly what it is supposed to do and I am satisfied with its quality and performance, given the relatively low price.

However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I have recently removed the Helos and I am now replacing it with a Vortex Diamondback Tactical FFP 6-24X50. This way, I will have the same reticle (EBR-2C) on my trainer as I have on my Bergara center fire match rifle (Viper PST). The Diamondback seems to be about the same optical quality as the Helos, and with relatively comparable features (neither has a zero stop and the Diamondback does not have locking turrets). However, the Diamondback is about $150 cheaper and with a better reticle (in my opinion).

I was only considering the Helos over the new diamond back for the Illumination factor. The Argos you think would be better or the new Diamondback? Optically the Athlon or the Vortex better??

How are the turret clicks on the vortex??? I know the helos has very solid pronounced clicks does the Diamondback??? They are so new there are literally no reviews on them.

Honestly, I have only ever used the illumination function on a scope in a practical manner once. And that was at the Guardian long range night match at Frontline Defense several years ago. I guess if you are going to hunt/shoot at night periodically, then illumination is a good feature to have. But for most folks, like myself, it will probably never have a recurring practical use.

As for optical quality, the Diamondback and Helos seem to be about the same brightness and clarity to me. Also, the clicks on both are about the same - neither is mushy. I intend to mount the Diamondback onto the 455 this weekend and test its tracking precision and then run it out to 500 and back. That should tell me a lot about its quality. So far, I have only played with them right out of the box, and have not actually messed with one that was mounted to a rifle.

As for the Argos vs. the Helos and/or the Diamondback, the Argos has the advantage of a zero stop (and also illumination vs. the Diamondback, if you are into such things), but sometimes at the expense of much mushier turret clicks. Ultimately, you'll need to decide what scope features you cannot live without in the application you are gonna be using, then start the process of elimination from there. Make sure you buy what YOU need, not what everybody else wants.

For me, I think the Diamondback is gonna end up being a better fit for my rimfire trainer and I will move the Helos to either a 6.5 Grendel or heavy SS .223 Wylde AR upper for additional mid/long range gas gun options. Your mileage may vary.
