This seems positive for the older guys among us.

Officials from the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission announced that recent legislation now allows for North Carolina residents, 50 - 69 years old, to purchase a Lifetime Sportsman and Lifetime Unified Sportsman license for $265 and $358 respectively. These new prices are half of what the same resident lifetime licenses cost prior to the change.

A Lifetime Sportsman license allows for statewide hunting and inland fishing for residents. It includes privileges for hunting for big game, hunting on game lands, hunting for waterfowl, fishing in Public Mountain Trout Waters, fishing in trout waters on game lands and fishing in joint waters. It does not include the bear management e-stamp, non-resident bear license, federal duck stamp or fishing in coastal waters.

A Lifetime Unified Sportsman license allows for the same as above, but also includes fishing in coastal waters.

Rare to see gov lower fees for anything, so even though I’m a ways off from benefitting, it’s great news!

They raised the prices on lifetimes last year IIRC a considerable amount. Don't remember what it was or went to but I think it went up a couple hundred for an adult.

Agree with @wscato buy em when they are young.

Best to get it for your infant when they are born for $100.

Did that for both of my girls. If it matters to anyone you do not have to be a resident and the child does not have to be a resident. I got my oldest one while a resident of SC. We were back in NC when I got my youngest one.

Yup, that’s what I did for my son’s first Christmas.

Edit: I thought I remembers it being around $200 when I did it last year. Thanks for confirming that @beamernc

It has gone up to $212 for infants under a year for sportsman license or $292 for unified sportsman.

I bought the lifetime license for all 3 of my kids and my nephew who will probably never use any of it.

Yeah the $100 thing has been gone for awhile. I still got my kid the $292 Unified as soon as we had a SSN. Great deal!!
