M&P Shield 9mm Questions

Maglula's Uplula magazine loader is -or should be- your friend!

Only owning Glocks and a Walther PPQ I was anticipating a mag loader to be included. Maybe single stacks don't get such accommodations.

Definitely going to look into a Maglula for my wife. She is one tough broad but they have one in pink so hey, bonus points for me :)

Thanks for the idea. I had forgotten about those and I want to do anything/everthing I can to make shooting easy and enjoyable for her.

Maglula ordered from Midway (on sale) and may the weapons Gods have mercy on me as it is pink for my wife. Thanks for the reminder @gc70

There was a time when the men in my household would not use a magazine loader. Then my wife had hand surgery that resulted in her having great difficulty loading magazines. However, she was ... determined ... to be self-sufficient in handling her firearms, so she got a magazine loader. After consistently being beaten by my wife loading magazines, my sons and I concluded that manually loading magazines is more masochistic than manly.

I never used a mag loader till I bought some Wilson 10 rd 9mm mags for 1911. It helps tremendously to get the last couple of rounds loaded, but more importantly, I can strip rounds out when they are fully loaded if I need to (at matches), and they have a little notch on the back of the Magula loader to help with that. It's danged near impossible bare handed.

Damn I hate to admit it but this thing, despite the color, is sweet!

My wife took her new Shield to the range for the first time today and loved it. She could only hand load the 8 round mags to 6 until employing the Maglula. So simple and easy. I wish I would have been smart enough to invent something like this. Then again she was at the range shooting this morning while I was at home with our son so I'm either not that smart or a genius :)

Thanks for all the great input and experiences in this thread gentlemen. I appreciate it.

So I bought a Sheild too. Because of the rebate, truth be told. I've got a great G26, a pocket pistol and a pocket revo.

This thread has some great info that I appreciate. If I were to echo/repeat one thing it would be to complain about the factory sights.

If one lines up the sights using the dots, it shoots to one point of aim. If you use the geometry of the sights (as in the outline of them, not the dots) it hits the target in a different place.

For whatever reason this kinda bothers me. So at some point I plan to slap some TFOs on it.

Anyone else had issues with the sights? Maybe I'm just like this dude..

https://www.cdnnsports.com/catalogsearch/result/?order=relevance&dir=desc&q=shield $24.99 and in stock, but Greg Cote llc is good too.

For sights, I think these are awesome: https://www.amazon.com/Ameriglo-Tritium-Orange-Outline-Wesson/dp/B00A95VQSG/
or these: https://www.amazon.com/AmeriGlo-Tritium-Orange-Outline-Compact/dp/B00EZSBJSU/
You can get them for $75 if you snoop around a bit. Have someone else put them on. Seriously.

I'd like to try one of these, but haven't yet.

I've carried my Sheild for a couple years now and never had a hiccup running anything from 115g white box to 147g HST. I'm really trying to talk the boss lady into letting me grab another while the rebate is still good.

Wife brought home the new Shield today. Very nice pistol and she is stoked with it.

Quick questions: Is it just me or is this thing pretty "tight" when new? Slide is fairly stiff to rack and the slide "stop" seems like the manual says it is: A "stop" and not a "slide release". I'm sure everything will loosen up with time but I was curious if any of you remember what yours was like new out of the box?
I'm over 500 rounds and can't release mine. The demos I've seen, it works as a release.

Love my Maglula. Definitely saves my thumbs on 500 round + shooting sessions.

Also I have found that heavier bullets expand better out of short barrels like the Shields and Glock 43s. I use 147gr HSTs and always by them from these guys. They often have them on sale for about 17 bucks a box of 50.

I run with mine in a belly band and the only complaint I have with it is the mag release rusted after 4 or 5 years of sweat.....crazy right? Not a deal breaker, but something to look out for if you plan on routinely dunking it in salt water.

Also 147 HST's run 100% in mine also, so I'll echo that.

4 or 5 years? Eat more salt.
Mine has rust spots after a week, slide lock too. Oh and the roll pin at the back is looking rough. Kydex with sweat shield.

Will have to give that a try tonight. Would be nice to break down the pistol without having a little tool to move that yellow tab downward.

I use whatever happens to be handy at the moment, i.e. the eraser end of a pencil or a ball point pen with the point retracted. On the full-size M&P, I'm able to reach the lever with a finger.
