Can any of you guys recommend a good smith with m1 experience? I have a friend of the family that is wanting to have the barrel changed out on his and is looking for someone in Fayetteville/Raleigh/somewhat near by that can do it. The only person I know is getting up in age and no longer has access to the proper tools.

I haven't seen the rifle so I cant speak to the condition. I'm told the replacement barrel is the original matching barrel for the rifle but I haven't directly spoke with the person to know the exact reasoning for the swap. I highly doubt any bubba business is going on so ya'll keep the torches and pitchforks in the shed for now lol.

PM or reply here, either works for me.

Thanks guys.

M1 Garand or M1 Carbine?

CMP custom shop. The only downside is that because of demand, you have to take a number and wait (so to speak). But working on Garands and Carbines (and other CMP arms) is all they do every day. It does require that you meet the standard purchase requirements, and you will have to wait, but their work and pricing are both very good:

I've assumed things before and she TOLD me I was wrong, I try not to do that anymore.

Contact Isaac McCaskill of Cassat Gun Works. He's a retired USMC armor that worked in the precision weapons section and he knows his way around the M1 & M14 rifles. He's been my gun-plumber for years and has built me a couple of match-conditioned rifles from the receiver up.

He doesn't have an internet presence so you'll have to call: 803-713-USMC

If you're near Dallas NC, you could also try James Mayo at CMP Armory (not to be confused the THE CMP).

CMP Armory

Second for Isaac.
Heading there tomorrow with a M1A that I may sell.

Tom
