I have seen some of these mounts on the internet, wondering if any of y'all ever them. If so are they a pain to mount in place, do the scratch the gun's finish. Etc. Is there something else that would keep a pistol at hand but out of plain sight while driving. Would appreciate any input.

I stuck a couple of these in our cars for the mouse guns. So far they're working quite well - I like them. You do have to give some thought to where they should be mounted - easy reach, won't get bumped, not pointed at anyone - but that's not a big deal. They came with sticky tabs but even though the magnets hold 25 lbs I doubt the tape will so I screwed them into the transmission tunnel console. They've been hanging fine for months now. I've not noticed any scratching in the gun but it's kind of a beater so I don't really worry about it. Biggest problem I have with them is getting back into the car and realizing I had left the gun hanging there sorta hidden but not invisible. That's not technically the magnet's fault though...

I looked into the N8^2 version for a bit - they have a rubber coating that would/SHOULD prevent harming the firearm

I ended up not going with it, instead I went with a cheap nylon holster that I got at a gun show for a few bucks (one of the loops for the belt mount was coming off or something, I forget exactly, but it wasnt 'right' so I offered the guy a low amount and he bit).
I have it mounted below the steering column.
Out of my legs/knee's way when entering/exiting car, as well as driving. But still within arms reach.
Not seen from outside of the car, and where it is coupled with being a black holster and black gun, means it's sort of hidden away.

It works for me, I am satisfied.

I use them, always screw them to something. No scratches on my PPS, that weren't already there anyway. They work well IMO.
