Man fatally shot at Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center

I suppose investigation into personal life might tell us if he was in a just end it type of situation.
not always. @Average Joe beat me to it, but some folks DO have everything in order except their mind.

The pattern of the wound can tell an awful lot as well as how the body and gun were found. It might be suicide or it might have been a NG that ended tragically because the person was not following the rules of safe firearms handling.

I shot there a lot for awhile when I first started. I was there at PDHSC one day in the lane at the very far right near wall. There was one other guy at the other end.

Two little guys came in and parked in the lane next to me. By small I mean child size. Under five feet but adults, maybe Vietnamese or Cambodian? Full grown adults, I just remember thinking "dang these are little fellers".

Anyway I am shooting my dork groups with my Mark 3 .22 and I start getting that feeling. There was a lot of motion over there and random shots.
So, I look over and see a partially empty box of 9mm, a loaded mag on shelf, and a dude looking straight down the barrel of what appeared to be a Glock 17.
It had a magazine in it and he had his finger on the trigger. And his buddy was crowding in to try and get a look!
The time it took to set down my gun and grab his hands/gun must have been some kind of record. But it felt very long and I was sure I was going to hear "BANG" and feel wet splatter on the side of my face.
When I went to clear his gun a 9mm cartridge slid out of what I realized was a Glock 22. I gave them a scolding and did it slow so they could understand my words. Nobody in shop noticed so I elected to use it as a teachable moment.

PDHSC was always good to me. Got some good deals on guns there. Chris gave me a lesson when I first started, but has given me so many free tips and helpful advice. I hate to see bad things happen to that business.

So the place with Safety in their name, ain't? No RSOs?

Wasn't one looking at that particular time on that particular day.

I think the name was likely conceived because they thought "Tactical AR-47 Assault Training Center" might not appeal as much to the community, but I have no idea.

We had a place in Illinois called Article 2 that had a grouchy old guy working the range area. He would holler at everybody and was generally was miserable to be around. I must have played volunteer RSO at that place frequently enough that this guy was actually nice to me. The stupid I caught and prevented there probably saved the business at least four times from having to call the medic or the morgue. Inspired me to go get a membership at a private club an hour from civilization.
It's a tough business that would quickly turn a hobby into hell due to all the stupid it sees.

They watch through the window. Usually no employees in the bay. It would take a few seconds for them to get from desk to bays. It’s only like 6 lanes.

Indeed. That last sentence really hits the nail on the head.

I like the people there as well, but I had a guy next to me one time that was shooting walls, the ceiling and just looked damn shaky. I packed up and let them know why I was leaving. Told them it was not safe in there the way that guy was handling his weapon. I’ve only been back to look at some guns.

i've definitely ran behind barriers at ranges a few times. japanese tourists were terrifying. dudebros bringing in their girl friends to have them shoot without actually teaching them how are also terrifying. it was detroit, so the thug community shooting skills were also terrifying.
When we were looking at this house, we met the neighbor across the street and he said he hoped the sound of gunfire didn't bother me, because most of the people around shoot in their back yards. wife sighed and said she figured this house was home now.
I've not shot in a place open to other people since summer of '19 (battery oaks excluded)
