Today's cars pretty much all look the same. Well, what cars that are still being built. Many manufacturers are dropping cars from their lines, trucks and SUV's are the popular sellers these days.

I grew up when cars had style and they changed from year to year. The unveiling of the new cars was a big event at dealerships. The new cars were shipped to the dealerships under wraps to hide them until the big day. Even in my little town, new car day was a big deal. The dealership would have new car test drives, food, bands, beauty queens, clowns, it was really a big deal.

I remember that me and a buddy snuck upstairs at White Chevrolet Sales in Galax, VA and lifted up the tarps and got to peek at the 1966 Chevys to days before the show date. We were afraid to tell anyone. Hahaha

I owned several of what were later called muscle cars, Chevelles, Chevy II's, GTO's. Add in three '62 Impalas and '55 and '56 BelAir's and a Nova or two. I was a GM guy back then.

My uncle had a red and white 1957 Buick Roadmaster and I thought it was the best looking car that I had ever seen. It may not have been a performance car like some of the others but it just oozed style, luxury, and class. Even today, I still think the 1957 Roadmaster is the best looking car ever built. What is the car that really caught your attention?

As a younger guy there are a few that caught my eye from the 80s and 90s, but Im still a fan of some older cars too, just took MUCH longer to appreciate them.

For me, speaking, again, about newer cars:
-FD RX7 (93-95 here in US)
-SW20 MR2 (I own a third one now lol)
-Z31 and Z32 300ZX
-Ferrari 355

All old now, 30 years approx + ,but I still love the bodies

The FD RX-7 was by far the most attractive car of the 90s. Wish Mazda would revive it with retro styling like Ford did with the Mustang.

While I have accepted I’ll never own one ... this version of a ‘57 Vette ... a 4 speed Fuelie

I'm sure it handles like absolute crap. But this my Favorite Corvette of all time. My second favorite of course is the 67 stingray convertible.

Ain't never been a stock 1957 Chevy, Ford or Plymouth that could hold a candle on the open road to a 4 Hole RoadMaster Buick, Rocket 88 or a Fuelie Bonneville. If you throw in a Eldorado Caddy the show is over.
Ford had a 300hp supercharger option that could give them a run but on average the big rides ruled the day when it came to the long run.
 
As far as new American cars, Dodge is the only one with any balls to try something different.
And before you go all blue mustang or bowtie corvette, you'll never see them turds make anything like this-

How about a Viper motor in a motorcycle.
And yes they made these for sale, and yes they are street legal.
Dodge considers this a car though, and this is my choice. :cool:

Nice. :cool: I had a 65 and a 67, both coupe's.
My Stepdad had a 64 1/2.
The 65 was my favorite. It had the solid lifter hi-po 289 with the three on the floor. I didn't know it at the time but apparently they're fairly rare. The car would flat-out get it.

eta-My buddy Don had a 68 called the California Special. Never seen one before or since.

My first car was an ‘86 T-Bird. One of the last cool versions of that breed before they too went “mediocre.” After that, it was a ‘68 Mustang and a ‘69 that my dad and I restored. I guess you could say I was spoiled as far as good looking cars went.

I look at today’s cars and...yawn. Yet people keep lining up to buy this crap.

One of my favorite cars is the Viper. When one of the FCA execs was describing the “come back” model of the Viper and said “it looks like a naked lady on the beach,” Ill be damned if that wasn’t one of the best descriptions of a car, ever!

My first wife drove one of these in the summer. Her school car was a 4 door 64 DeVille Caddy. She was 5 feet tall and had to sit on a phone book to drive it. She had the 2nd Mustang in the city of Florence, S.C.

I used to restore old T-Birds as a high school summer gig. Mid-Florida Motorsport was the name of the place. At one time, they were renowned throughout the US for their work. It was nothing to be working on a car that the owner was putting $100k+ into its restoration. Full body-off resto’s. Of course, I had the glorious job of sandblasting the underbodies (in Florida summer heat in one of those Lord Helmet-looking sand blasting helmets!), stripping old paint, body work prep, sanding, and paint booth prep. Every once in a while they;d throw me a bone and let me assemble rear view mirrors or bolt seats into place.

The owner got a little carried away with other ventures that ultimately distracted from the min mission too much and the place fizzled out. Shame.

But it was a pretty coo summer gig for a high school punk!

The California Special was one of the appearance groups Ford offered and aren't common but aren't exotic either. They had other "specials" for different regions of the country but they were all appearance groups only.

The 67 pictured isn't mine, mine is still under restoration but it's painted that same color. Mine is far from stock. The Triumphs were mine, restored by me. The Bronco was a true survivor, bone stock and 100% rust free.

Did DODGE make that, or a custom builder?
If custom work (NOT dodge) then your post is invalid lol
 
I had friends in high school with GTOs. 65, 66, (2) 67s, a 68, and new 71. And two brothers with a GT350, and a GT500, but this mid-engined Ford V-8 is what got my attention the first time I saw one sitting in the movie theatre parking lot at Southpark in Charlotte around 1972. It’s Eye-talian awright, but they were marketed by Mercury.

I saw a new 18 or 19 Mustang with a California Special badge. Guess Ford is offering that again. It didn’t look any different than a normal Coupe or GT though.
 
Looked it up, looks like a concept vehicle - any evidence of DODGE making these for sale (and street legal)?

You it the nail on the head with Dodge and their creativity. Yeah, we can knock them for being owned by a weenie Euro car, but damn if they don’t make some of the more edgy and unique styles on the road today.
