I'm pretty excited to add this gun to my collection. I'm a big 1911 fan, love 45acp, and mag swaps are neat. I really am more into the wood furniture styles, old school I guess. Anyway, wanted to share and ask a few questions.

First of all it is a beautiful gun, I'll try to get the picture here from my phone in a minute. Wood is near perfect, as far as I can tell, metal is shiny. Exactly what I wanted and I think I got a fair deal on it.

The bad, the recoil buffer has disintegrated and looked like tater chip crumbs when I took the wood off. Also, it does not want to feed. Hoping a new buffer and a cleaning will help that. I used reloaded ammo, that runs perfectly in both my 1911s. I have an original Marlin mag in the gun, tried a couple of my other mags as well, but they felt tight going into the mag well. There is no name or markings on them, but again, they function perfectly in my 1911.. My other mags are packed away, as we are redoing the house (a loooong story I don't want to talk about!). I understand I am talking about two guns, and what works in one might not work in another.

It appears the bullets, 230 gr round nose, are not riding up the feed ramp, and it appears (to me) the barrel is too far back for the ramp. It happened with all the mags I had. I pried up the tip of the bullet a little and it then loaded and fired. I am in the process of googling, but I just know someone here can save me the 1.9 million hits I'll have to wade through.

Also, where is the best place to get another buffer? MIdway, Brownells, somewhere else?

Thanks guys.20230730_200500.jpg

Not going to shoot it again, have a buffer on the way. @MacEntyre do you really think it could be that simple?
Aye!

That's all mine needed. It's a very simple design. Anyway, you should never change more than one thing at a time. Replace the buffer and try again.

Just as a comment... I am a Marlin fanboy, but I like each of the Camp rifles for the companion pistol. I am a big fan of both the 1911 and the S&W Model 59.

@maceive got a buffer ordered. Should be here Saturday. One change at a time is definitely the way to go. Thanks

Received my new buffer today. Dug what was left of the old one out, kinda like digging an old candle out of the jar for my wife. Put the ne buffer in and gave it a little cleaning love, and it loads, feeds, and shoots like a champ! Pretty accurate on my short backyard range. Was able to hit my gong anyway, didn't get much more precise than that, since I had somewhere else to be.

Couple of questions for those in the know.

The bolt closer spring has disappeared. I looked for it, but no luck. I'll probably look a little more tomorrow, but I'm not too hopeful. Seems like a $5 part if I order it. Anyone know of something else that might work that I could get that doesn't have to be shipped?

Also, I see plenty of warnings about the plastic mag well and cleaning solvents. What is safe to use on this? I've got a couple of bottles of various stuff, but I'll be in town tomorrow and can pick up something else if I need it.

Anything else I ought to know about this gun?

I think it's

People laugh when I say I've done firearm disassembly in the tub (empty) with the shower curtain closed and the drain stopped.

Because springs.
