This week a team down in Kandahar asked me to ID some old ammo. Easily ID'd it as .577/.450 for the Martini Henry rifles. I had just mailed home my antique Mk III dated 1881 for this chambering. Shown alongside a 9x19 cartridge. Calibers in hand, bullet diameter is .450", rim diameter .745", case length 2.30" and OAL 3.0435". There is no markings on the case head. Team reported that farmer was giving this ammo by the Russians decades ago.

Forgot to add the bullet weight is 480 grs under 85 grs of black powder. Heavier load than our US Government .45-70 using a 405 gr projo under 70 grs black.

CD, that is the cartridge I like to pull out when people get all excited about 45ACP, or are in the little caliber wars.

"Oh, your gun shoots 45ACP? Quaint. 45LC? Cute. Let me show you a 45 round that wears a moustache during flight."

That is pretty darn cool! Many of the rounds I've seen are paper-patched so I'd guess not Brit supervision production. It's a drawn case not folded/coiled, so it is post 1886

I'm a fan of the round myself, I don't paper patch either, too much trouble for just going bang at the range.

Looks like a Martini-Enfield .303 carbine
