The news likes to report the shooters were wearing “body armor”, but I don’t trust them to tell the difference between armor and a mag pouch. Has anybody heard of a confirmed report of any of them wearing armor ? Soft armor or rifle plates ?

I haven’t seen anything other than “vest”, which could be anything.

In the media's eye any tactical looking vest is going to be called body armor.
It's not about getting factual information to the people to make their own decisions and opinions, it's about pushing out whatever they think is factual without delay to get that "Breaking News" and filling in the pieces with fiction.

Pics of the dead guy in Ohio show no BA even though the media keeps reporting he was wearing it. Tell a lie long enough and people will believe it. Come to think of it the only lunatics incan recall wearing actual BA were the West Hollywood bank robbers. Everyone since then were simply wearing "tactical vest"

The truth only matters to a few ... mostly like us. Drama and such just makes it more of a storyline for the media to use for ratings. Sensationalism also allows those who want to disarm more leverage against evil gun possession and usage. Funny thing is the uninformed people are about as dumb about body armor as they are about suppressors. I’ve tried to explain most body armor has an “expiration date” (yes it can be used years after the date but ...) and not all magic vest doesn’t stop all rounds. It only covers the torso vitals along and if used trauma plates only cover about half the torso they get a baffled look on their faces. TV and Hollywood again have caused the made something more of a tool than it is. Hell, if ever pushed to engaged someone wearing a vest ... go for the pelvic girdle (the iliac artery there feeds the femoral artery along with the lower GI stuff) which might not be a light switch CNS stop but a cracked pelvis and the resulting internal hemorrhaging will take the fight out of most. Again ... it’s being misrepresented and even villainized like most other “tools” because they really don’t understand it or for an agenda.

Agreed, West Hollywood guys were WELL armored up. Didn't the 2016 Dallas Cop shooter wear armor too? I recall seeing a video where it appeared an Officer got behind him, shot him center mass in the back, and the shooter shrugged it off, returned fire forcing the Officer into cover, then the shooter went opposite side around the column and flanked the Officer. I found the video:

Wiki has that the FBI stated shooter wore body armor, but reference is from a Washington Post article.

If anybody hasn't seen the surveillance video of the Dayton PD neutralizing the shooter here are some links. It looks like it was inside 20yds with handguns, and he went down instantly. My estimate is either a CNS hit or no body armor:

Why would they were body armor? Once committed, there's really only two likely outcomes; die, or become a guest of the prison system.

Am I looking at this wrong? I mean, I guess if they're trying for the record, perhaps they think they can stay in the game longer.

Mine is kind of a silly question, but that's how it crossed my mind.

To cause as much damage for as long as possible.
