Member messages - staff needed

Last night I had to have a staff open up a message between me and another member. I thought it was an isolated incident. But other members are reporting that they can't send messages.
What happened?

If you go under your profile and Contact Details, any chance this box is unchecked? Or you have the other option in the dropdown (something like People You Follow)?

That box that @BigWaylon circled in the above post has to be checked by the member who you’re trying to send a PM to on their personal page . If they don’t want to accept messages, they shouldn’t be listing stuff in the BST.

Do you happen to know if our position as Staff overrides that? Currituck couldn’t send a message to the seller, but I could.

...and after I started a message with both of them, CK said it was then working for just the two of them...but now he’s reporting issues with others.
