Miami Dade SWAT on netflix

Worked with and trained with some of those team members back when I worked in federal law enforcement in Miami...both on and off SRT.

Wonder if this is another scripted "reality TV show"

wonder what other mistakes will be shown....
Kinda made me wonder when the guy who transferred from another dept was issused a .50 cal....

Just started watching it since I'm out of commission today, had all 4 wisdom teeth removed yesterday.

Season 1 Ep 1, the unit leader gives a run down of their gear and says, "this is our bulletproof vest, level 3A armor. This will stop rifle rounds like an AK47 or AR15." o_O Pretty damn sure 3A is pistol up to 44mag. Level 3 is rifle, level 4 is steel core or multi-hit.

Type IIIA:
357 SIG. 44 Magnum 10mm Auto
7H21New armor protects against8.1 g (125 gr) .357 SIG FMJ Flat Nose (FN) bullets at a velocity of 448 m/s ± 9.1 m/s (1470 ft/s ± 30 ft/s)15.6 g (240 gr) .44 Magnum Semi Jacketed Hollow Point(SJHP) bullets at a velocity of 436 m/s (1430 ft/s ± 30 ft/s).

Conditioned armor protects against

8.1 g (125 gr) .357 SIG FMJ Flat Nose (FN) bullets at a velocity of 430 m/s ± 9.1 m/s (1410 ft/s ± 30 ft/s)15.6 g (240 gr) .44 Magnum Semi Jacketed Hollow Point(SJHP) bullets at a velocity of 408 m/s ± 9.1 m/s (1340 ft/s ± 30 ft/s).

It also provides protection against most handgun threats, as well as the threats mentioned in [Types I, IIA, and II].

and did they not sat "the 50 cal sniper rifle for hostage situations"

Correct me if I'm wrong???? I thought shooting a person with a 50 cal is a no no ??

I think they only hire real ninjas.

Googled it and found a few more images of this setup. For the life of me, I can't figure out WTF you would want this set up???

You guys didn't know that the more shit you have on your weapon the more tactical you are? Regardless of the practicality.

I also wonder about some of their gear selections. Having a yoke/collar on your body armor is kind of pointless if its practicality folded down. I also wonder how often their coms wires get snagged on shit hangin out the way they are. Don't get me started on vest mounted holsters, and slurpas non the less.

I'm not the be all end all expert on gear but I did stay at a holday inn once.

You need the 3x acog for longer range engagements, for these swat guys say 100 yards, and if you need to kick in a door you pull it and just have the eotech. Gotta carry everything for every possible scenario, cause the public needs to see you being tactical and it's public money.

Been watching a few episodes.
Holy shit. Those guys are not law enforcement, they are .mil.

Crazy.
Not enough rice in China for me to do that job.

I have not been to Miami, but I have a friend who is a cop/tac medic with LA SWAT. I did a couple ride-alongs, the things they did and environments they were in...

I am not about the militarization of LE, but can understand their argument....

I think it's a supply thing.

Since they have ACOG's and EO Techs they do not need to buy a magnifer.

I guess

I suppose, but I would just run the ACOG if you needed some magnifcation. That sight picture has to look like absolute $hit.

The only possible reason I can think of is a backup natural illuminated site in case yo batts run out in full ninjah mode.
That's quite a stretch. I think the only reason is that it is a lack of training and knowledge on his equipment.

He heard about the eotech recall and decided to back it up with a 2000$ acog. Plus, it kills the eye relief advantage of the potentially dead eotech.
If the eotech fails, he's gonna pull it and mount a 3-9x50 (stored in 5:11 sling pack). Or a laser rangefinder.

Two is one and one is none, son.
