I want to add a longer/fixed stock to an AR, and most of the ones I'm seeing want a rifle tube, not a carbine tube.

Are there issues with running an upper with a mid length gas system with the larger rifle buffer and tube?

If it cycles, it should be OK? I figure the heavier parts will actually reduce wear since they're not banging around as hard as the shorter systems, but that's just my guess.

I have one set up like that and it runs great. I used an AGB on mine.

If you end up not wanting to swap the buffer etc out Magpul has a fixed stock that goes over an adjustable buffer tube. I'm debating one myself and you can tailor the length with their butt plates.

It's pretty reasonably priced too.

A friend had the magpul fixed A2 length stock on a lower and let me try it out (just moved his lower onto my rifle and presto, the exact confit I want to run). I really liked it, and the rifle ran fine. Guess now I just have to order my own setup.

I saw those, I just don't like the size of the rear 'flat spot' where the rear bag would sit. The magpul A2 style has about 2.5" of space for the bag, and the cheek area is slightly enlarged and more comfortable than the thinner setup.

Shouldn't be an issue, you're more likely to have an issue with an oversized gas port making the weapon over-gassed, than putting a fixed rifle stocked lower on a carbine/midlength upper.

You can also just buy a spacer and use your carbine buffer and spring.

Probably cheaper options too.

I remember long, long ago that someone gave me a funky foam covered wire stock, and I was thinking it might have a rifle tube in it... I went deep into the basement boxes and found this gem:

I took it apart and it does have a rifle length tube, spring and buffer in it. So, I'm good to go. The stock I want is on order, and by this weekend I should be enjoying all the fixed stock goodness on my "target" AR.

That's the best ar stock I ever had. Love those things.

Make me an offer and it can be yours! (minus the tube of course)

An ACE rifle stock? Shocking, but I don't have any of those.

The MOE Rifle stock is the bee’s knees of cheap stocks. I’ve run one on my 3Gun rig for years with mid length gas.

I'm thinking of trying one of these next. I went with a Lancer CF fixed. Great stock but a little short, as I stupidly bit on a good deal for the A1.
And, it feels too light. Gun is nose heavy.

Haven't found the right fixed stock yet. MOE seems to tick the right boxes though.

Mine showed up, got it mounted and once the trigger gets here you can maybe give the lower a try (if you can deal with a *gasp* anderson lower touching your upper).

I’ve played around with swapping uppers around and had no problems with a 16 inch mid length upper on an M16a2 clone lower. Changed ejection pattern a little but it ran fine and locked open on the last round.

Would love to!
And, I actually have an Andersen upper receiver. I ain’t no snob!

My trigger is lost in USPS hell, officially wandering around RTP for 3 days now, but if it ever shows up you won't have to deal with the milspec thing in the lower now.
