I ran across I nifty thread while searching for AR triggers on sale this weekend and the guy that started a thread on a forum I’ve never heard of was in a position that many of us have been in, his factory mill-spec trigger sucks and he doesn’t have $150-$250 to drop on a quality aftermarket trigger, people were suggesting the various triggers that are more budget friendly and a guy shared a link to a kit sold by a company called Taylor Tactical that consists of a reduced power trigger spring, reduced power hammer spring and a “thread through” grip screw for less than $20.

I did a bit of looking around and I did not find a single negative review of the kit after an hour or so of looking, I have not used or own the kit and I just found out about it a couple of hours ago but for $20 I am definitely going to buy a couple and keep them around to use in new builds since I normally buy the “good” triggers for my projects last, no clue why but I do that every time.

Anyways, if you’re tight on funds and you can replace an AR trigger it may well be worth picking one of these up to hold you over for a while, and I imagine polishing the trigger while it’s out isn’t a bad idea, you “might” end up not wanting to buy a top shelf trigger if this thing works out for you, for $20 it can’t hurt to give it a shot!

The only caveat is that your lower must have the grip screw pocket drilled all the way through the bottom of the lower, just pull the rear takedown pin and look to see if you can see a hole just behind the trigger where the grip screw screws into the bottom of the lower, watch the videos in the link I posted and one of them shows you what to look for.

I’ll update the thread with my thoughts when I get mine in and installed.

I bought the 2 pack kit for $27.95 so that puts the kits at $13.97 each, I can handle that lol.

In the end I hope I don’t end up being the poster child for the ol “a fool and his money are soon parted” saying, but it’s one of those times when risking $30 is worth satisfying my curiosity.

Have any of you had the chance to handle the kit from Joebobs or something similar?

Seems worth it!
I’ve tried triggers with the JoeBobs that were pretty good. Totally worth the money when compared to before the installation, imo.

I don't know why this seems to be an "Open Secret" because as others have, I've been doing this for years and it works Safely.
In conjunction with dressing the trigger parts, sometimes I'll use just a reduced Hammer spring only, or use all three springs.

Besides obtaining a Much Smoother Trigger with a Crisp Break, I have found trigger pulls in the 3.5 pound to 4.5 pound range.

While this is NOT in the 1 to 2 ~ 3 pound range with an ultra Lite Break one gets with a trigger costing $80 to $250 I can live with that and I also have the piece of mind that if my trigger malfunctions I don't have to send it in to whatever company that made it.

BTW, the mod parts ( screws & spring kit ) can be had for less than $10, like 6 for the spring kit delivered & .75 ~ 1.25 for hardware.

Safe Shooting

Wasnt aware anybody thought it was a secret, lol.

I hadn’t thought about bobbing the hammer but that’s a dang good idea too, the first trigger I’m going to try the kit out on is a BCM nickle coated one so it should be easy to slick up, I have a couple of new standard PSA mil-spec that I may play with as well.

I am running CMC, POF, Hyperfire and Geissele triggers and I plan on going with the LaRue BMT-S2 on my .458 Socom build, I am mostly looking for options to help out a couple of friends with very light budgets to get their ARs slicked up a little.

I had the standard PSA milspec and with polishing, spring kit and cutting the hammer, I had it down to a very smooth 4.5lbs. pretty good for a mil spec + $10 in springs.

Hey all I had time to install a trigger kit and wanted to share my thoughts on the kit.

I installed this kit on a BCM PNT trigger which is a nickle boron mil-spec trigger.

With the nickle boron trigger this kit eliminates all of the take up creep, I mean there is zero take up and the break is like a glass rod, the reset is actually shorter than my CMC 3 1/2 lb trigger and the break is nearly identical.

The trigger pull is improved ever so slightly, the springs that came with the kit have reduced the pull by about 1 lb and that is being very generous, I would wager it is 1-1.5 lbs with this Particular trigger, with a run of the mill standard mil-spec trigger it may be more, but giving it a wild ass guess I would say the trigger pull went from 7 lbs to 5.5-6 lbs, that isn’t a negative imo, just an observation.

Installation is as easy as any other mil-spec trigger and the instructions clearly state you need to add enough thread locker to prevent the “inner” screw from moving under recoil.

Adjustment is actually extremely easy, I pretty much added thread locker and started tightening the inner adjustment screw until the trigger fired due to the pressure of the adjustment screw, once I found that limit I backed the screw out until the hammer would lock to the rear, at this point the safety would not engage so I backed the adjustment screw out until the safety would engage normally and I was done with the adjustments.

So in a nutshell for less than $20 (I bought 2 kits so it came out to less than $14 for me) you can get a trigger pull slightly lighter than a standard mil-spec trigger but with a glass rod type break and a reset as good as a $150 trigger.

If someone had an extremely tight budget or if one simply wants to retain a mil-spec trigger with a much improved break and reset I can’t recommend this kit enough, for the money I don’t think you can improve a standard AR trigger any better, is it as good as a CMC or POF trigger? Not by any stretch of the imagination, but if you have $150-$200 to drop on an aftermarket trigger by all means do it, this kit imo is fantastic for what it offers but it doesn’t come close to a quality bang switch.

I plan on running this trigger for a while and will update the thread if I have any issues to report.

EDIT: I am considering running 200-300 rounds through the gun with the PNT trigger and then trying a non nickle boron mil-spec trigger with a bobbed hammer, I have 4-5 triggers laying around so I’ll dremel off different amounts of the hammer to see how the kit does with various hammer weights.
