On a related note, I had a buddy at Bragg that was real good at making an aircraft full of jumpers lose their cookies.

Summer time, ERO (engines running onload) on an FLS somewhere. Hot as balls, just miserable. He'd have a baloney & ketchup sandwich in his cargo pocket for lunch. Once we were wheels up, he'd bust out that hot, stinkin' sandwich & chow down. When he was done, he'd make eye contact with the queasiest lookin' jumper near him & <thump thump thump> stick 1/2 a can of Copenhagen in his lip. He'd let just a little dribble out the corner of his mouth & swallow. Usually resulted in a fistfight for airsick bags.

Merry Christmas my brothers in arms. I had to go met Santa on the flight line this Christmas Eve as the C130 dropped off a newly rebuilt Minigun for a ODA. Got 2000 rds set aside to test fire it Thursday. Christmas day noon will be on the range shooting other machine guns.

No Lidl here in Fayetteville, but Harris Teeter sells Hefeweizen. I will look for Perlenbacher. Thanks.

There was a sailor in field med school, a crossrate who had been on the honor/ceremonial guard in DC before becoming a corpsman, who had gas so bad his nickname was 'Chalupa' because his favorite food was Taco Bell.

That man was phenomenal.

You read the book by Scott Waddle about the USS Greeneville-Ehime Maru incident? I have it; it's a decent read. I heard him speak a few years back (locally, he lives in Cary), he talked about interviewing with Rickover and being in meetings with him. My takeaways: He was hilarious, and scary; and, I would not want to be immediately under him.

I haven't read that book. I'll put it on my list.

Add a former nuke, I'll say this about Rickover: that man totally understood the concept of responsibility and absolute technical/engineering integrity.

He was NOT a man who could be bullsh*tted by ANYBODY.

That's Rudy Boesch, the longest-serving SEAL and certified legend. 45 years of service, started in the UDTs right after WWII, decorated for his performance in Vietnam. He would routinely beat almost everyone on beach runs right up until he retired.
