Sent both the girls to the camp this summer. My club sponsors several campers each year and they got full scholarships to the camp. They sponsored 5, and had 6 spots available. If you know anyone with Wake County Wildlife club, Sandhills Rod and Gun club, or Catawba Valley Wildlife Club they sponsor campers every year. I think Wake County takes applications at the Dixie Deer Classic too.
My youngest went to the beginner camp. She left with her Hunter Safety Certificate. They have 2-3 classes a day and tested at the end of the week. They did tree stand safety, snake ID, animal ID, archery, shotgun, orienteering, fishing, and more.
My oldest went to the advanced camp. Less classes and more out doing things all week. They are required to have their hunter safety certification to attend. They did fly fishing, duck decoy carving, high ropes course, canoeing, trapping, shotgun, prescribed burn, a crow hunt, and more. She was the ONLY girl in the group. She ended up having a great time though.
If you know any kids in the 13-17 age range that would be interested in this I can't recommend it highly enough. The staff were fantastic as well. The camp is outside Ellerbe, NC. They have a great facility there. Both the girls had a great time and want to go back.
