My IH 560 was a bit lonely, so I picked up another neat tractor. Minneapolis Moline isnt too popular around here, and I like some odd, neat, tractors. Farm fresh, came from a collector in Pennsylvania, bought by some Mennonite tractor dealers in Northern Va. I had watched it on the site for quite awhile. Got a steal on it. I was wandering around the lot and mentioned a John Deere 90 they had. The Sales guy said "you confuse me …IH on your front tag, Looking at a JD, and buying a Moline…. I told him I didn't have tractor prejudice. :p

She needs some TLC, but nothing I cant fix. Thing starts like my Ford F250. No glow plugs, no ether: boom, 4-5 cranks and she fires up. I have to get some work done on the rear fenders. Otherwise in relatively good shape. 87 hp roughly. Gonna try to get it to the pull in August and see what she will do. Has a leak in an injector line, but have a lead on on of those used, and a new repop grill. IMG_20180722_185136272.jpg IMG_20180722_185104524.jpg

So Mary liked the face on it. I said it looked like it had the crap beaten out of it. So I did a lil facial work on the old girl this afternoon before the rains came. This pic was before we picked it up and the lights were all beaten out of it, badging looked bad, and as I said, the grill is on order. You cant find the badging anymore, and they get beaten up on a farm tractor. But, a lil steel wool, scrubbing and some black enamel paint from Lowe's made it look a bit better.

I really like the Minnies, an odd bird around my parts also. I love to see the GVI pull. I was told there used to be a dealer in Albemarle. There is a guy a few miles from me that has a lot of the BF Averys and a few U and Z models. Hard to get anything from him.

Lort, what a project. So in the above pics, you see this dopey fuel filter set up. It had a plastic pre cleaner that was off of a ag sprayer. And they took a lot of time doing it also. o_O. They also had a nice stanadyne legit fuel filter. The glass filters are $25 bucks, but whatever. So we re-plumbed the filter, and took the ag filter off. Maybe take the radiator cap off that you are using for a gas cap and pay $10.00 for a real gas cap. That might help reduce trash in the tank....just a thought.

When I picked it up, it had a fuel leak near #1 injector. I figured it was a nut needing tightened. Nope. Fuel line rubbed with a poorly brazed repair. I needed @Jayne with his super soldering skillz. He's never around when I need him. (except when he wastes an entire Sat. of his helping me rewire my Farmall 560....there is that .) So, I ordered another line from the salvage yard and a new grill. $100 for grill, $30 for fuel line. Here in two days. Fixed that and then the injector pump return line started leaking. WTF. Took it to Triad Hose in King, they are making me another one. should be fixed today or tomorrow. Picked up some bigger tires. Currently wearing 16.9x 34 going to a 18.4 x 34. Biiiig difference. The 18's are what were factory on it. Bough some fenders from a guy in Roanoke, and come to find out they wouldn't work. But did advertise them and found a guy who wants to trade a super nice set of GVI fenders for these "U" fenders that wont work. Little more driving, but that's fine for a nice original set.

Then the monsoon hit. So. We wait.MSGR_PHOTO_FOR_UPLOAD_1532955001957.jpg_1532955004642.jpeg IMG_20180728_173149101.jpg IMG_20180730_135430112_HDR.jpg

Makes 'er look like a Tyrannasaurus Rex with those tiny front tyres... you gonna make them bigger, too? ???
Tyrannosaurus. Haha. That is actually the correct size. We were going to hook it to the pulling sled Saturday night and that stance helps with the dynamics. I think she is a little tired to do too much, but we will see.

A little more fuel and forced air will wake her right up! J/k its coming along nicely they are neat old tractors.
Yeah, I need to find someone who knows about injection pumps and the like. I'm sorely behind the 8 ball with my performance abilities since its diesel and there are not a lot of diesel guys around.

Keep an eye out on a factory seat. The G706 factory seats fit too.

If it's a Rossa Master or a Stanadyne I may can help. I went to school on them years ago. Inline pumps, not so much.

Older Stanadyne. Has Roosa Master on some of the parts. I need to trailer it down to you one day. and my IH560. And a pocket full of money. :)

In my limited experience operatin' big marine diesels, you jus' need to know how to bleed the injectors... no user serviceable parts inside the high pressure fuel pump, less'n ya went to school. ;)

There's one of those sitting on Whiskey Rd in New Ellington, SC on Hwy 19 going to SRS from Aiken.

Yeah, you can turn the fuel up a little. But you have to watch out for getting too much. Really need to do it on a dyno. But, I dont have one of those. LOL

Does it have a return on the high pressure line?
I've never had to adjust the fuel pressure on one... seems like a seat of the pants adjustment would work well.
I like the simple diesels that simply run... and run, and run.

Exhaust temps and pyro guage are key to monitor when turning the fuel up. You can melt holes in pistons if they get too hot for to long. Short burst are sometimes ok but prolonged ones gets bad

You can't adjust the pressure on the Stanadyne pumps, only the volume of fuel. And the governor cutoff speed.
Turn the fuel up as far as you can and still burn it. More fuel is not always better, unless you pump more air in to burn it. (Looks like time for a twin turbo kit!!)
The pumps have a return fitting with a check ball that usually goes bad. The rotating rotor to head clearance along with the injector settings determines the pressure .
Not much else you can do to these pumps unless you have the test stands to calibrate them on.
Rossa Master became Stanadyne in the early 70's.

Got a piece of exhaust cut. It was too long when I got it home. Also didn't realize it was stainless. After cutting it down and polishing it out, turned out well.

I turned it up a little so I shall see how it goes at the pull tommorow. I was going to try to adjust the linkage, but the throttle lever is also the motor shut off. So that's gonna take some figgering.

I reupolstered the seat last night too. Boys, I do work for others and may have to vendor up... But I ain't cheap. That gorilla duct tape is expensive. Jut warning you up front. :)

After you win the tractor pull, an' if'n you can get those rusty bolts to turn, I can help you do it with upholstery fabric. Gorrilla Tape makes a good base. I could bring me tools, an' we could do it under the tree in yer backyard. Mebbe that would get me Wifey outa the house and onto yer farm for a nice afternoon.

IMG_20180901_100049771.jpg So I told myself I should drive this thing up the road and back just to see how it runs with that fuel pump adjustment. Ran like crap. Smoked, stuttered, didn't run good at all. Pulled it back to the shed adjusted it back a little bit runs like a scalded cat now. And that thing in 5th gear is scary fast it's like driving a car up the road. So today is the inaugural pull for the GVI, we'll see how she does,

Seat o' th' pants adjustment... I like it!

Them two together looks like the set of Thomas the Tank Engine!

Well, I pulled the GVI in the 8200 class to see how she would do. It was 7910 with me on it. I dont have any weight brackets. just a plain tractor. I spun out at around 100 ft. I should have let more air out of the tires. I just wanted to see if she had some engine, and she does. But, she didnt seem to mind the sled. Has potential.

The 560 was a winner. Won the 6700 and 7200 classes with the Farmall.

That damn hand clutch tho. shew.

I used to mow the Horace Williams Airport, largest grass strip east of the Mississippi, with a little Ford Ferguson 8N... never could shift while rolling. You have to do that in a tractor pull, don't you?

I have that exact little tractor sitting in my shed too. They are great tractors, but you cant shift while rolling in them, so it's not just you. Normally, you don't shift. Depending on the class….either 3.5 mph, 6.5 mph, or "open" depends on the gearing you use. Most people pull in 1st, a few in 2nd. I always pull the 3.5 mph class, and that puts me in low throttle second gear or wide open in 1st. If you have enough engine, you can pull in 2nd ….but it gets a little tough at the end of the track when the sled is really weighted on you. Here is a copy of the pulling order. They vary light to heavy, and heavy to light to give everyone a chance not to be there at 10 at night if they dont want to be. Personally, I like light to heavy, because I dont have to re-load weights to ship tractor back home.IMG_20180901_173107827_HDR.jpg

There was a tractor pull at Big Lick last night. Is that where you went?
Nope. Boonville. My "home track". Im going to be pulling in Mocksville on 9/15, are you going to be there? Ill just bring the Farmall, I cant back-and-forth those two again, damn near kilt me.
