I wondered this too so I went back and watched again. It appears it was him filming he got a shot of his forearm tats in the video and could be heard yelling stop it to the kids. Also said he was with his wife when she was attacked.

The gated community thing is just a guess on my part though as evidenced by the gates across the road in the background.

All this talk about response reminds me of the conversation I had with the local PD after the drive by shooting here. The next morning they told me they were not worried about picking up the shell casings, it was just a misdemeanor charge, and the guy had no idea that a vehicle and home had been hit. I was pissed. I told him that was fine. I didn't need their protection, I could take care of myself and my family. And if this happened again, and I was home, all I needed them to do was come clean up the mess. And it was going to make the first incident look like childs play.

Part of the reason I was so mad was the round that struck the vehicle was apparently fired back at the house they were aiming at. And it was a direct line right into my living room. What the PD didn't know was I came home from work immediately after and pulled armed security at my house for about an hour until my wife calmed down too.

In this day and age minors are almost immune from arrest or prosecution short of murder. Here in NC most cops will not even deal with a minor because of all the paperwork and having to contact child services and counseling and all of the other crap that goes with it. So when a bum kid gets to the age of 18 he is a hardened (and somewhat spoiled) criminal who thinks he can get away with anything. Here in our local area we have a "gang" of little miscreants who race 4 wheeler's on the roads at 60-80 mph. Sooner or later they are going to get themselves or some innocent motorist killed avoiding them. Local LE will not get involved because they are afraid the little bums will run from them (and they will!) and get hurt or killed and lawsuits will be coming out of the woodwork. These kids have the same mentality as the Vegas bums. Even though they don't go around beating up people (yet) they know that no one can touch them. I don't blame the kids, I blame the parents. Feral parents breed feral offspring. My philosophy is that there are human beings and Homo sapiens. You are born a H. sapien and not a human being. You only become a human being if you are raised as one and it is a privilege and not a Right. Go out and hurt innocent human beings and you revert back to being a H. sapien and you have the same rights as any other animal. There are laws protecting animals. Those are the only laws that you have. Sometimes we euthanize animals that can't be rehabilitated or are a danger to human beings. Most of us consider that very humane. I tend to agree. Act like a vicious animal, expect to be treated like one. :)

The media LIES, all the freakin' time. Editing/taking things out of context/building a false narrative, who knows what's really going on. If we judge based on what they show us, we're the problem. We should know better and act accordingly.

This has been my thought process. I'd still get someone to film as I wade into the conflict. As we all know though, people still claim Michael Brown was an unarmed got that was shot for no reason. If that lie can still be trotted out no matter how many times it has been proven false, then imagine what would happen to John Doe off the street in this scenario.
 
I find it interesting that this country is so far down the hole of political correctness that everyone is afraid to say what they think. So afraid of being labeled that they make excuses for “the children”.
If the “mother of three” was my daughter and three kids, my grandkids, I could actually see the edges of insanity approaching my mindset.

Animals must be dealt with as such, you can deal with it anyway you wish but I for one am not willing to have my family subject to this kind of thing while you play patty cake and sing kumbaya.

Speaking of the 4 wheelers, I had that gang talk a few years ago when 3 of them started racing up and down the street in front of my house. Called the cops several times, all I got was a handjob that went no where. "We have to catch them in the act". 2 days later they damned near ran over a patrol car and the cop just went on like nothing happened, no chase , nothing.
I knew where the little bastards lived, explained it to the cops, nothing.
I went to the parents of 2 of the kids and explained the bad things that were about to begin happening. I explained lawsuits to them and that seemed to ring a bell and things stopped for a week or so and then the race began again. I guess they doubted me but suddenly believed me when code enforcement showed up on their doorstep.
One of the parents came to me and wanted to know if I called C.E. and I said I did and it was just a matter of time before they came back. He threatened to beat my ass and that resulted in the charge of issuing and uttering a threat charge, he got arrested, bailed out but never showed up for court. Now he has a bench warrant out for his arrest. They moved and the 4 wheeler problem went away but the word still circulates the neighborhood.
If you never give your neighborhood UP you'll never have to take it back.....
 
That worked out well, better than the thoughts I’ve had on these on road/off road thugs.

I would have been plotting:
- getting the sn’s to see if they’re stolen
- fishing nets to wrap up the wheelie boys
- applying concentrated sulfuric acid on the engin/transmissions.

Agreed. There's a whole lot of stupid in those interviews. There's absolutely nothing irrational about dropping someone who's in the process of assaulting you.
 
There were problems with middle-school aged children in my former neighborhood - otherwise thought to be a "good" upper middle class area. These kids would walk abreast in the street and literally dare a car to go around them (as would, unfortunately, adults as well); they were repeatedly verbally abusive to adults (as reported via the "Nextdoor" site); and otherwise carried out activities such as knock-and-run or other minor vandalisms/trespassings.

Call up parents? "What do you want me to do about it? They're just kids! There's nothing else for them to do out here ("here" say being a neighborhood in the environs "around" Wake Forest). They're not really 'hurting' anything. You shouldn't be so uptight and concerned with 'your' property. You're one of those 'home is my castle' types aren't you?" Variations on that theme.
 
The first time my (Sheriff) Dad caught you smokin' weed, he smush your stash into the ground and bust your pipe on the curb. Then he'd tell you that he was gonna have a talk with your parents, and he better not catch you again doing this stuff.
Second time he'd haul you in. If you were a good kid that needed straightening out, he'd talk with the Judge and you'd get 6 months probation.
Most kids got the hint and cooled their jets. But some, you just can't reach, and they'd get worse..start using the hard stuff, selling it, and running with the dogs. May God forbid that my Dad caught you then. He'd have a talk with the Judge again, and now you're looking at 7 years in the State Prison.
And the parents? Now you're on the radar too.
He was not gonna tolerate this crap poisoning his community.
It wasn't just drugs, though that was his pet peeve since he saw it ruin so many young people, but any manner of crap behavior. The community responded in kind, re-electing him to 5 consecutive terms as Sheriff, which he never won by any less than a 5 to 1 margin.

When you hear me say bring back the beat cop, this is what I'm talking about. Community policing begins on the street, not in the office. When the administration and their lawyers run the department, people die.

The BEST handling of this was in the 80’s riding in my friend’s built to the gills ‘69 RS/SS Camaro with street/strip meats in the rear.
Thuggles thought he was going to stop traffic.
Brian dumped the throttle to 6 grand and the punk learned he had a 30’ long jump that day.

Years ago the GPS took us through a rough part of VA at night, thugs jumped in front pretending to wrestle. Tahoe at WOT, my wife screaming at me, the kids waking up, and the group of thugs cleared the path.
 
It's easy to sit here at home and fantasize about grabbing one of the punks by the ankles and use it as a club to beat the others but if you were the one standing there it would be different.

You would be the guy who assaulted a bunch of twelve year olds and the world wouldn't treat you as a hero.

Maybe, but I'm also not going to just sit and let a bunch of twelve year old thug wannabees whoop on me. Act like a adult, get treated like a adult. I'm not real concerned about how the world or anyone looks at me when I'm defending myself.

Years ago I began to notice a TON of good looking, well built young ladies that could pass for 18 or 19. Well, come to find out they were 12 and 13!!! The same things has happened with the boys, a 12 or 13 year old male can be the size of an adult, or even bigger!!
Your age doesn't concern me, it's your physical size compared to mine........ As big as me, or close??? MAJOR ass whipping, a little smaller?? I'll tune it back at little, maybe....

Having worked with adolescents, I can verify that they can be quite dangerous. One of my duties was to merely be a "calming presence". A man sized body and a childs mind, add in hormonal surges and you can have a handful sometimes. I myself was a 5'10" tall and weighed about 170 lbs. at 13. I wasn't unusually large in comparison to some of my peers.
