Here's an idea torn from the /r/guns sub on Reddit:

Why not host monthly CFF shooting competitions for Pistol, Rimfire, and Centerfire Rifles?

The previous month's winner chooses the target (via printable online targets), firing range, and other stipulations (standing, sling use, irons or optics, number of targets per competitor, etc) and allows members to print the target, take it to their local range, complete the course of fire and post their results for scoring.

Winner gets bragging rights and the duty to create the next month's "match." If the winner decides to have a prize, that can be done as well. Eventually, if the forum gets big enough, maybe we can compete for club swag. If we get a lot of participation, we could have a championship series for the year based on total points, maybe NASCAR style to determine the top 10 finalists to shoot the December match.

Example:

December Irons Match is here, time for some Project Appleseed style shooting to test your skill with iron sights. That means zero support besides your arms and a sling. This will start at 25 yards, but we’re going to be stretching out a little bit to 100 yards for the second string. Any rifle caliber will suffice.

Range Setup

Post one of these targets (http://www.targetz.com/targetzlib/10082.pdf) at 25 yards, one of these targets (http://www.targets.ws/shooting-targe...e-target-4.pdf) at 100 yards. Scaling target for different distances is fine

Course Of Fire

You will fire at the first target at 25 yards standing, fire 10 rounds into the target. Now you will transition to prone (or bench) and fire 10 rounds at the 100 yard target. Remember, no bags or rests allowed. Just you and a sling. You can shoot the course of fire 3 times and submit your best score. The Honor System is in effect.

Scoring

Scoring will be a 10-2 in 2 point intervals at the 25 yard target. Score your own, and submit a picture of your targets along with your self scoring in the thread for verification. Winner will be announced at the end of the month and will come up with the next month's challenge.

The 100 yard target will be as shown on the target itself with a 2x multiplier. There is no time limit, only hits count, so take your time on these shots.

Have fun!

This is a fun way to get everyone to the range to "compete" even when we can't get together at the same range at the same time. I think it could be a good time.....we could have 5 or 6 going each month (Pistol, Rifle, Irons, Optics, Milsurp and Tactical). Plus, we could teach each other a thing or two based on how differently we practice punching holes in paper.

So, what say you? Start in January 2017 with Pistol, Irons, Rimfire, Milsurp, and Centerfire Rifle?

I think it's a great idea!

The only suggestion I have at this time would be that it starts as of January 2017 since it may be tough for many people to get to the range over the next 10 busy days.

Yeah, I'll edit it to say starting in January.

Sounds awesome, gonna break out the cz for the rimfire division. Can we compete in more than one division every month? And which division winner picks the next month's challenge?

Each division winner becomes responsible for that particular division's challenge in the following month.

So whoever wins rimfire does rimfire, whoever wins Milsurp does Milsurp, etc.

I will offer up a 325-round box of Federal Auto Match .22LR for a prize for the first match.

just printed them out, will do it sometime over the next week or so, great idea, thank you for it!!

The first one will be in January. The above is just an example of how it will work. Check back January 2nd or 3rd.

BTT---

Maybe this can be a sticky since it attempts to involve the entire community and hopefully doesn't get lost in all the other local comps in this sub-forum.

I plan to print a target today and hit the range this afternoon.

I'm still in for the prize, I guess that will be for the rimfire division. SPM are you defining all the divisions this first go-round?

Yes. I apologize for not getting it out there today. The Missus sprung a surprise trip to DC over the weekend for New Years and work is stupid this week. I'll try and post them in a bit - either tonight or in the morning.
