Mosquito proofing garage?

they make a screen you can hang over the opening. you could probably fab up something cheaper.

that or develop a tiny drone with radar tracking and fitted with little lasers to seek and destroy the little bastards. billion dollar idea.

There's a few different low care plants that make a difference. I use a Thai (cinnamon) basil plant at the balcony door. Used to get a lot of mosquitoes and flies and it's cut it down significantly.

One thing that helps in my shop and in the barn are fans that create an air flow out of the doors and windows. We run fans pretty heavy too ... ceiling fans force them down and shop fans out.

I use...

  • Thermacell for spots like front porch sittin and camping
  • Fans for shop or garage and camping
  • Dynatrap for yard coverage
The skeeters have been a minimal threat here this summer.

Is there anything I can get to put in my garage to deter these dang pests! I like to have the doors open when in there working but the skeeters eat me up.

Here is the best stuff I have ever seen for "skeeters". All natural, no deet and they have free shipping. You can sometimes find it at lowes and other places. I saw it a Yoder's Dutch Pantry the other day. I have worked outdoors for 40+ years and this stuff is way better than any other product I have used.

If you can, sample the stuff before you buy. We tried that once and ours stunk to high heaven. Couldn't stand to wear it.

A fan? Seriously, a couple of those big 36" round floor fans set on low.

Reactions: Me.
Get a few mason jars and make citronella lamps with them.

You'll need the jars and lids,
Citronella oil (bitefighter works)
and a big roll of wick (amazon)
small bits of wire (brads from my brad nailer work perfectly)

Fill jars half way or so, poke a hole in the lid, insert a length of wick and clip a wire around it to keep it from falling through. light them and put them near your garage door.

Then use a fan near the back to push air out.

We use a combination of the citronella lamps above and ceiling fans to keep them off of us on the porch.

A fan would help. If a mosquito can't detect the CO2 coming from your breath he can't find you.

The real problem is their breeding grounds. You have to eliminate any sources of standing water where they can hatch. Their range is relatively short I understand.

Do you mind the smell of garlic? Mosquitoes hate and are repelled by the smell of garlic. Take a few heads of garlic, purée them in a blender add water and let it sit for a few days. Strain it and spray around the edge of your garage door and surrounding driveway area. True fact, Disney in Florida sprays a mild garlic oil extract around the park. It’s not strong enough for humans to smell but the mosquitoes smell it, and that’s why there are no mosquitoes at that park which sits in the middle of a swamp.

We're talking mosquitoes, not vampires!

That is strange. I have never had any issue with the smell. I just checked a bottle I have on the counter and it smells fine to me. Could be just a difference in personal preferences. Still good advice to sample if possible before buying.

Maybe we just got a bad bottle. Neither my wife nor I could stand using the stuff. No wonder mosquitos stayed away from it.

You sure you didn't get a bottle of the sun beater? The ingredients listed on people spray are listed as geraniol, rosemary oil, lemon grass oil, pepperment and denatured alcohol. Same for pets and one other thing they list. I can't find the ingredients for the sun beater.

Don't know. It's been awhile and I don't think we kept the bottle. I think we gave it to my sister-in-law. We did buy it a Lowes. Maybe it just didn't agree with us.

The females are the ones that bite, they are attracted to CO2,
when I work on the cars in the driveway I run a 18" pivot fan, keeps them away from me,
in the garage I have a 52" ceiling fan on medium speed. Works well.

We just started spraying a 5% permethrin (10% diluted by half with water) mixture on the outside metal of a tiki torch top. One spray on two tiki torches and the masses of mosquitos that call my yard home disappeared. My next try is going to be some permethrin in an oil warmer powered by a tea candle. This is all my attempt to create a cheap form of a thermacell. I just hate buying the butane to run them
