Hello guys, I had a question on moving in state with a silencer? I have read contradictory info on if you need to fill out and file with the ATF the 5320.20 paperwork?

It’s not required.

It is recommended by the ATF, because they’re required to keep the registry up to date.

Only potential issues, which would be fixed by filing the form later, is an address mismatch down the road…if you file 5320.20 forms for temp interstate travel, or F4s to sell off any items. But there’s no guarantee it’s even an issue at that time. Lots of first hand accounts of forms going through without any issues as well as forms getting kicked back and asking for permanent move notifications to be filed first.

Thank you for the info

What is the requirement for a move out of state?
Approved 5320.20 for every SBR, SBS, MG and DD…before you move.

They’d like one for Silencers and AOWs, but it’s not required. You could do it after the fact if you wanted to.

Cool, to be clear… if I permanently moved from NC to say SC with just a suppressor, I am not required to notify anyone.

If I did want to notify, the way to do that would be,….5320.20? I thought this was for temp only.

Its not required by law. However I sold a silencer once and they sent the stamp to my old address ( even though my correct address was on the new form 4 ) and my renter threw it in the garbage after she called me and asked what it was and I asked her to mail it to me. Our landlord to renter relationship went down hill after that.

She interfered with items sent by the post office and destroyed federal records that are required to be retained.
I hope you threatened her with prison along the way.
